In its first game in four months, the MLS returned to action in Orlando on Wednesday between hometown Orlando City and Inter Miami CF. But before the two teams kicked off the long-awaited return to team sports in the US, the two squads stood silently for several minutes in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. The Memorial Day death of George Floyd while in police custody prompted national unrest and protest over incidents of police brutality. The return to play is part of a six-week tournament being held in Orlando. The MLS said it will not play the national anthem before games during the tournament.During the moment of silence, players in the starting lineup took a knee while reserves and players from other MLS squads stood around the field with one fist held high into the air.The protests were akin to ones led by former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who kneeled during the preegame national anthem during the 2016 season. The MLS said that members of the Black Players for Change promotes the fight for racial equality and human rights, as the group was formed to give Black players in MLS a voice and assist in making systemic change both inside and outside the league. 1207

INDIANAPOLIS — A special prosecutor chose not to press charges against Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill, after four people accused him of sexual misconduct. The alleged sexual misconduct happened in the early morning hours of March 15, 2018, at a party at A.J's Bar in Indianapolis. The alleged behavior included suggestive statements and unwanted touching by Hill.  Hill did not deny touching occurred but said it was either incidental to conversation or movement in the bar, according to the prosecutor's report. The special prosecutor, Daniel Sigler, investigated a potential charge of misdemeanor battery. Fifty-six witnesses were interviewed during the investigation, and a video statement was obtained by Curtis Hill."Mr. Hill was cooperative with my requests throughout the process as were all witnesses interviewed," Sigler wrote in his statement. Sigler said he found the women's claims as "true and credible.""Their motives appeared sincere and I found all to be credible in their belief that Hill touched them in a way that was inappropriate," Sigler wrote. "The decision made today should not and does not reflect on their credibility," Sigler wrote at the end of his statement. "They addressed their concerned in an appropriate fashion and forum and should be subjected to no criticism."The Indiana Inspector General also released a report about the investigation. The Inspector General's report is more detailed in those interviewed, and the exact allegations against Hill. Of the 39 people interviewed who attended the party at A.J.'s Bar, 20 of them said Hill appeared to be intoxicated. When asked why they believed that, some said he was slurring his words or had trouble standing up. One witness described him as "acting like a freshman at a college frat party," while another said he behaved in a "predatory, intoxicated manner." Another 15 people at the party said they couldn't comment, weren't sure, or couldn't remember if Hill was intoxicated. Four said they didn't believe he was intoxicated. The initial accusation against Hill came from Mara Candelaria Reardon, an Indiana State Representative from Munster, Indiana. She told investigators Hill put his hand on her back at the party, then slid it down her dress and grabbed her buttocks. She said she told him to back off, then left the conversation.Later in the evening, Reardon said Hill returned to her and touched her back. She reported that Hill said "that back, that skin" when he touched her.The investigators interviewed a male witness to the incident, who said he saw Hill touch her "with his own two eyes." Other witnesses said they saw them together and saw Hill touching her back, but didn't see how far down his hands went. One of those witnesses said Reardon approached him and said that Hill was "a creep," but said she didn't elaborate further.Hill's second accuser told investigators he approached her and started rubbing her back. She told investigators "she felt trapped," and was uncomfortable and embarrassed, and afraid of how others would see what happened. A third accuser told investigators Hill approached her and made her uncomfortable with the conversation. She said she told him "it's really hot in here," and Hill replied, "Yes, you're really hot."In addition to the known four public accusations, investigators also learned of two more incidents where people stated they were made uncomfortable by Hill's actions at the party, according to the Inspector General's report.“While the findings of our investigation did reveal unacceptable behavior by a state officeholder, and which significantly impacted those affected, we respect the grounds on which Special Prosecutor Sigler made his decision,” Inspector General Lori Torres said. In an announcement shortly after Sigler's, the women who accused Hill said they are pursuing a civil lawsuit against him. Hill's attorneys released a statement about the announcement. In her pursuit of higher education, Ewaoluwa Ogundana is facing new challenges.“Knowing the number of barriers that I faced, and my parents have faced in the past almost 17 years now, simply just being able to live in this country means a lot to me and my family to obtain a degree,” she said.Born in Nigeria, Ogundana’s family moved to the United States when she was 4 years old. Now a senior political science student at Trinity Washington University, Ogundana is considered a DREAMer, someone that was brought to America unlawfully as a child but is allowed to work and study here without fear of being deported. Those fears, however, are becoming more of a reality.Although the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the DACA program earlier this year, there’s still uncertainty about permanent protections and pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services continues to reject all initial DACA applications and is limiting renewals to one-year. Now, there’s added stress brought on by the pandemic.“DREAMers have been more significantly impacted by the coronavirus in large part because of either their own status or that of their parents,” said Candy Marshall, president of TheDream.us, the nation’s largest college access and success program for undocumented students.“As a result of this pandemic they have increasing anxiety about their responsibilities,” she said.Marshall’s team recently released a study that shows the employment rate among DREAMers dropped nearly 30% since the start of the pandemic. She added that 70% of those students reported feeling much more anxious about their legal status since the start of the COVID-19 crisis.“These are young people in their 20s, and they carry this incredible sense of responsibility to succeed,” Marshall. “Their families gave up everything to get them into this country.”While in the U.S., Ogundana plans to overcome these fears through higher education and applying to graduate school to learn about public policy.“As a dreamer, it’s extremely important because it’s pretty much the connector between where I am now and entering my full career,” she said. 2163

In the span of less than 24 hours, Delta strengthened from a tropical storm into a power category 4 hurricane with its sights set on the Yucatan Peninsula.Moments after reporting Delta had become a major hurricane Tuesday morning, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that the storm had strengthened further into category 4 status. According to a reading from a Hurricane Hunter aircraft, Delta has maximum sustained winds of 130 mph, as of Tuesday at 10 p.m. CT. The storm's top winds dropped slightly from 145 MPH.The NHC says Delta will bring "extremely dangerous storm surge" and other hurricane-like conditions to the Yucatan throughout the day Tuesday before briefly making landfall on Wednesday. The Yucatan Peninsula is home to many Mexican resort towns, including Cancún and Playa del Carmen. Belize, a coastal country on the southern part of the peninsula, may also feel effects from Delta. While the NHC notes that there is "large uncertainty in track and intensity forecasts," Delta is currently expected to make landfall on the Louisiana coastline as a hurricane late in the week. Current forecasts have Delta making landfall anywhere from western Louisiana to the western Florida panhandle on early Saturday morning.Louisiana has taken the brunt of the impact of the 2020 hurricane season. Hurricanes Marco and Laura have already made landfall in the state, causing inland flooding and significant damage along the coast. Hurricane Sally also did significant damage nearby Gulf Shores, Alabama, when it made landfall in September.Delta became the 25th named storm on Monday in what has been an extremely active 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. 1667

INDIANAPOLIS -- Vice President Mike Pence took to social media to celebrate the NFL's new policy that requires players to stand during the national anthem during games. The new policy, announced Wednesday, comes after months of controversy that started with silent protests by then-San-Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who said he was kneeling during the anthem to draw attention to injustice. After Kaepernick's protest, NFL players across the nation began to follow suit which later drew the ire of President Donald Trump, who in 2017 said players' kneeling showed "total disrespect for our great country."Pence expressed his feelings about the decision on Twitter with the hashtag #Winning along with a CNN story calling the new policy a "Victory for President Trump". 826
