O’FALLON, Mo. (AP) - A suburban St. Louis election official who worked at a polling place on Election Day despite a positive test for the coronavirus has now died, raising concerns for the nearly 2,000 people who voted there.St. Charles County, Missouri, spokeswoman Mary Enger said in a news release Thursday that the person, whose cause of death is not yet known, was an election judge supervisor at the Blanchette Park Memorial Hall polling site in St. Charles.Enger says the county’s health department and election authority recently learned that the poll worker tested positive Oct. 30 for COVID-19 and was advised to quarantine for 14 days, but ignored the advice and worked Tuesday.“As this virus continues to spread, all aspects of the healthcare system are working together to remind the community that a positive COVID-19 test result requires that person to be responsible to others in the community,” says St. Charles County Director of Public Health Demetrius Cianci-Chapman in the news release. “There is no more important duty than protecting the health of our families, friends, and those who reside in the community with us.”Health officials said election workers at the site have been contacted and they are working with the election supervisor's family to "determine the worker’s whereabouts before the positive test results."Enger said they are advising some or all the other nine election workers at the polling place to test for the virus.Enger said "it is not anticipated that close contacts will include any of the 1,858 voters who were at the polling place Tuesday" since job duties for supervisors do not entail them to work close to voters, handle iPads, distribute pens, or taking voter identification.St. Charles County Director of Elections Kurt Bahr said masks or face shields were mandated for all election works at all times and the workers and voters were separated by Plexiglas barriers.Election workers practiced sanitation procedures throughout the day, Bahr added. If you were at the percent on Election Day, health officials said you should watch for symptoms and if you have any questions, you can contact the county’s COVID Hotline at 636-949-1899. 2195

Norwegian Cruise Lines announced they are extending their suspension of all cruises until at least March 2021, as coronavirus cases remain high in the US and around the world. In a statement released Wednesday, Norwegian said all trips departing between January 1 and February 28 as well as “select voyages in March 2021” will be suspended. The suspension also applies to Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises through March 31, 2021.“Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. … today announces an extension of its previously announced suspension of global cruise voyages as the Company continues to work through its return to service plan to meet the requirements of the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” the statement reads.Norwegian now has the longest suspension of major cruise operators. Carnival and Royal Caribbean announced last month they would suspend voyages through January 2021. Some Carnival voyages are canceled through February. The CDC lifted a no-sail order at the end of October, however a few days later, the Cruise Lines International Association, which represents about 95 percent of cruise operators, issued a statement that they would voluntarily suspend voyages through the end of the year, at least. Then a few days before Thanksgiving, the CDC warned Americans about traveling on cruises and the potential for contracting COVID-19. This followed a positive COVID-19 case on a Bahamas-based cruise voyage in early November. When the CDC lifted their order they announced a tiered approach, which would include cruises with a select group of volunteers to test COVID-19 safety protocols before passengers would be allowed. No word on when those would begin. 1758

On Aug. 26, 2017, 15-year-old Damon Grimes was involved in a police pursuit while driving an ATV. That pursuit ended in a crash on Detroit’s east side that claimed Grimes’ life.Using the Freedom of Information Act, 25-hours worth of video from police body cameras and dash cameras, surveillance video and cellphone video shot by witnesses were released that tell the story of the senseless death. They would not provide footage from the dash cam of the pursuit by MSP Troopers, Mark Bessner and Ethan Berger. At 5:31 p.m., the video shows Damon Grimes riding his ATV down Rossini Avenue and Gratiot in Detroit.Bessner requests priority to chase an ATV. “He flipped. Flipped!” said Detroit Police Officer Williams on the radio.“Yup, tell them there’s an accident,” said DPD Officer Boersman, who was first on the scene.Grimes hit a parked Ford F-150 with his ATV and he flew off the four-wheeler.“He’s got a pulse and he’s breathing,” said Bessner.“0-9, he’s slowed down, we tased him and he crashed out. Have EMS step it up,” said Bessner.“He’s got a pulse,” Bessner said.As Detroit Police Officer Kimberly Buckner heads to the scene in his squad car, you can hear radio chatter from MSP: “If you could just maybe have a unit or two make it there for moral support, sounds like it could be a pretty bad one.”“They never said what they were chasing him for just came over there and said MSP’s in a chase," said Officer Addison.“Don’t run from the State Police, you get f---ed up,” said one officer. Also on video, troopers can be seen attempting CPR on Grimes.“His pulse is weakening, what’s our ETA?” is heard on dispatch.“They tased his ass while he was cruising,” said an officer who walked up to Buckner as he covers her body cam.Buckner then shuts off her camera. As the ambulance arrived around 5:37 p.m., the stretcher is wheeled up to Grimes' body while another officer shuts off his body camera. At this point, Stephenson turns on her body cam.“Should we give them like an escort or something?” she asks DPD Officer Aubrey Wade. “Should we give them an escort to St. Johns?”“For him? Hell no!” said Wade.“They got lights and sirens. We only do that for police,” he said. “If an officer gets shot we’ll do that.”“I didn’t know they were chasing a four-wheeler,” said Stephenson.Grimes was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John’s Hospital.Due to his insensitive comments, Wade was reassigned.Bessner, the passenger in the MSP vehicle in pursuit, is accused of breaking protocol and taser use. He is awaiting an August murder trial. He resigned from Michigan State Police. The Grimes family has filed a million civil suit against Bessner. They have also filed a ,000 suit against Trooper Ethan Berger, the driver of the MSP pursuit vehicle. 2796

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Georgia woman who ran in the 10th Anniversary Disney Princess Half Marathon over the weekend says she lost a cross pendant necklace filled with her daughter's ashes on Sunday.Chasity Foster, a teacher from Augusta, Georgia, lost her 17-year-old daughter, Shaylin, in a car crash on her way to school last month. Shaylin was a high school senior who had been accepted into college to become a biomechanical engineer with the dream of creating prosthetics for children. Before the tragic accident, Foster said the two used to run several marathons together; including the Disney marathon."She was a very fast runner. She was involved in soccer, cross country and track," Foster told Digital Producer Veronica Beltran over the phone. Foster said this year they had signed up for the Disney Fairy Tale Challenge, previously known as the Glass Slipper challenge, — which involves a 19.3 mile magical adventure in two days including the Disney Princess Enchanted 10K and the 10th Anniversary Disney Princess Half Marathon. She said after last month's accident she was unsure about participating in the race. After Wesley Baker, Shaylin's best friend, asked his mom, "what if Shaylin would have wanted us to?" she knew they would in fact be heading to Florida for the race to run in her honor.Foster said her husband, Chris, ran in Shaylin's place and even wore her Princess Anna costume. During Sunday's marathon, Foster says she was hesitant to wear the cross pendant necklace with Shaylin's ashes because it means so much to her but she wanted her daughter to be there with her as she ran even if she wasn't there physically."I had my husband double check to make sure the necklace was on properly because I didn't want it to fall off," Foster said. "During mile three, I realized the necklace was missing. It's devastating to lose any child and then to lose the necklace I started freaking out."She said she was still wearing the necklace when they were in front of the Magic Kingdom parking lot entrance. A short distance later, near the princesses, is when she realized it was gone. She went to look for it with her family and friends, but wasn't able to find it before heading back to Georgia."To lose this necklace is just devastating and priceless. No amount of money in the world could replace this necklace," she said.Foster said the necklace matches her daughter's promise ring — which her father gave her at her 16th birthday — and has her name engraved in the back."If anyone finds the necklace they can contact me in any way possible that they can," Foster said. "I will even drive to their house because this [the necklace] is part of my baby."If you find the priceless necklace, you can contact Foster at ChasFoster7@gmail.com or her Facebook page or even turn it in to Disney's lost and found. 2923

Nurse Theresa Klenk sees plenty of cases of heatstroke at the New Jersey hospital where she works. But when her husband, a UPS driver, was admitted with symptoms incurred during a shift driving a brown delivery truck with no air conditioning, she decided to do something.Klenk created a petition on change.org in July urging UPS to provide air conditioning in its trucks. It's been signed more than 210,000 times. But UPS is not planning to equip its vehicles.Dan McMackin, a UPS spokesperson, told CNNMoney that air conditioning wouldn't work on its trucks."Our delivery vehicles make frequent stops and the entry doors and rear doors are frequently opened and closed throughout the day, making air conditioning ineffective," he said.McMackin said the company does have a program for drivers feeling adverse effects from heat called Cool Solutions, which focuses on hydration and extra rest before extreme heat conditions."We provide water and ice in all facilities for employees and we have fans in many of our vehicles. We monitor local area temperatures and inform our drivers every morning of the forecast temperatures," he said. The Cool Solutions program doesn't solve any problems, Klenk said.At her husband's facility, the program merely consists of handing out a case of water every morning to the branch's 68 drivers, she said.Heatstroke sets in when the body gets so hot that it stops sweating. At 10 degrees above normal body temperature -- about 107 degrees -- it begins to get too hot for organs to function. The union hasn't been much help with the air conditioning issue, Klenk said.UPS's roughly 260,000 employees belong to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union. In June, the union reached a new tentative contract with UPS for the main small-package division, ensuring wage rises and creating a part-time weekend force.Klenk, whose husband is with Teamsters, said that the air conditioning issue is not a part of the contract.Andrea Medinaverbeck, a petition signer, commented: "As a former Teamster shop steward for UPS out of Sunnyvale, CA, we have negotiated AC in package cars, but it has always gone by the wayside when other issues arise that unfortunately, the union thinks are more important. In essence, it's been used as a bargaining chip instead of an important issue."Teamsters declined to comment.UPS isn't the only delivery company facing a call for air conditioning. A similar change.org petition aims at FedEx, and has garnered 161,000 of 200,000 desired signatures. However, FedEx says some of its vehicles do have air conditioning, according to FedEx spokesperson, Shannon Davis.Klenk plans to take her change.org petition to top UPS brass once it crosses 300,000 signatures."There are solutions to fix the problem," Klenk said.The-CNN-Wire 2792
