Oregon is a vote by mail state and there was the potential that ballots would be sent to addresses where people no longer lived.She posted signs in English and Spanish around southern Oregon, making sure people knew how to receive their ballot even if they lost everything.Now that the election has passed, the focus stays on not only the recovery from the fires but also the pandemic."I think that one of the things I wanted to convey to you all today is that COVID went out the window for many of the families," Virginia said. Guide Dogs of America is searching for volunteer puppy raisers in San Diego.GDA places puppies in foster homes at 8 weeks of age.  The volunteer makes sure the puppy receives the proper socialization to adjust to their important job later in life.Volunteers will attend a Puppy Orientation meeting and receive a Puppy Manual with “do’s” and “don’ts”. A bowl, brush, bone, leash, collar, ID tag, ID card, puppy jacket and 5-pound bag of dog food are included. Future items purchased for the puppy are tax deductible. A 5th grade teacher may have been forced out because she wears a hijab.That’s the allegation against Melvindale/Northern Allen Park School District in a lawsuit filed this past week.The lawyer for Amirah Mosed said the way she was treated at work at Allendale Elementary School isn't right and in the lawsuit they allege Mosed was subjected to a hostile environment where she was told to “get a job in Dearborn” among other things, harassment that they say is against the law. “This is a woman who’s born in the U.S, who is very American and a wonderful teacher and just a great person with a sense of humor, a delightful human being,” attorney David Nacht said.Nacht said his client endured religious discrimination while she taught 5th grade.In the lawsuit against the district there are allegations Mosed was told by supervisors to resign or get fired, to “get a job in Dearborn,” told her students were not safe with her, all because she is of Yemini descent and dresses, culturally, in a hijab.”It got worse and the students loved her and she was written up and fired and it’s bologna. and its not America,” Nacht said.The allegations are discrimination and harassment on the basis of her religion. Nacht said there were no legitimate concerns about her teaching abilities.“She was just not perceived to fit the community to fit the school,” Nacht said. “What this case is really about making America safe in the workplace, for all Americans. (KGTV) - San Diegans looking to find a new job - or get a better one - will soon have a new resource to help them get there. Goodwill Industries San Diego is finishing a more than 4,000 square-foot job training center in San Ysidro, which it plans to open Sept. 13. The 0,000 facility is replacing the organization's rack store at 630 Front St. in San Ysidro, which moved to a new location. The center will offer free career counseling, meeting spaces for interviews, open computers, and even job fairs - all free to San Diegans looking for work, or a bigger paycheck. RELATED: California is the sixth-worst state for retirement."So even if they get a job, that job that just puts food on the table, we want them to continue to come to us so that we can support them, so they can get that better job," said Toni Giffin, CEO of Goodwill Industries of San Diego County. The state reports that there are still about 58,000 San Diegans who are unemployed, even with the jobless rate near a record low of 3.7 percent. (KGTV) — Recently released video shows a Florida deputy rushing to save a toddler left in a hot car overnight on Father's Day.Seminole County Sheriff's deputy Bill Dunn responded to a call for a stolen vehicle with a child possibly inside on June 17, 2018, in Sanford, Fla.Dunn arrived to find a 2005 Toyota Corolla with its windows rolled up. Inside was a young girl, visibly in and out of consciousness. She had been inside the car for roughly 12 hours, according to the Miami Herald.RELATED: Infant dies?after being left in hot car in Florida"Sadly I didn't think she was alive when I got to her," Dunn told Seminole County Sheriff's Office (SCSO). "I didn't feel a pulse."Video released this week shows Dunn rushing to his vehicle with the 3-year-old girl limp in his arms.When the deputy reached his vehicle and turned on the air conditioner, signs of life started to return to the girl."Once the cold air hit her, that's when I started noticing her eyes kind of fluttering," Dunn said.RELATED: 12 tips to prevent child deaths in hot carsAfter reaching the hospital, the girl was taken into trauma care. Three days later, the girl was able to leave the hospital.“I remember one thing distinctively,” he said. “Putting my hand on her chest and feeling her heart racing.
