If you don’t think you can handle your monthly payments, an income-driven repayment plan is your best option to avoid default. Here’s why you should enroll now and what your other choices are.Opt for income-driven repaymentFederal loan borrowers can — and should — apply now for income-driven repayment. Each of the four plans available will cap payments at a percentage of your income and extend repayment to 20 or 25 years, with any remaining balance forgiven at the end.The most broadly available plan, Revised Pay As You Earn, or REPAYE, caps payments at 10% of discretionary income. If you have no income, or your income is at or below the poverty line, your payments would be zero.It’s vital to enroll as soon as possible. Many student loan borrowers who are out of work may apply for income-driven repayment all at once, which is likely to overwhelm the servicers. You’re more likely to get your application approved sooner if you apply now.“This is the moment for you to reach out and call us so we can talk specifically about your situation,” says Buchanan.He adds that servicers are planning outreach to borrowers in the coming weeks. Recertification will make sure your payments are updated and affordable.The fastest way to recertify your plan is at studentaid.gov, but a paper form is also available.Request another payment pause — this time with interestYour alternate option is to pause payments through forbearance or an unemployment deferment. Neither is quite like the payment pause you currently have — you have to request it, and interest will likely accrue during the entire pause and increase the total you owe. To prevent this, you can ask to make interest-only payments during these periods.An unemployment deferment allows you to postpone repayment for up to 36 months. You must be receiving unemployment benefits or working part time while seeking full-time work. Only apply for an unemployment deferment if you know you’ll be out of work for a short period of time and if you can prove you have looked for a job at least six times within the last six months. Otherwise, an income-driven repayment plan is the way to go. Interest won’t accrue on subsidized loans during an unemployment deferment.A forbearance is a last-ditch effort to avoid student loan default, which could lead to your wages being garnished or your tax refund being seized. Interest will accrue on all your loans and be added to your balance at the end. Only use forbearance if you can’t pay your loans, you plan to restart repayment soon and you won’t qualify for an unemployment deferment. You can request a forbearance with your servicer.Ask your private lender about hardship optionsPrivate student loan borrowers were left out of the original Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act as well as the HEALS Act.But private lenders usually offer student loan forbearance or can temporarily lower your payments, though these options are far less generous than federal ones. French President Emmanuel Macron tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, according to CNN and the Associated Press.Macron's office confirmed Thursday that the 42-year-old Macron received a test after experiencing symptoms of the virus, which later came back positive.Macron will isolate himself for seven days but will continue to carry out his duties as president remotely.Macron's wife, Brigitte, 67, has no symptoms but will also self-isolate. (KGTV) - More than 200 Marines and Sailors from Camp Pendleton have been helping in the Creek Fire fight for nearly two weeks."This is why Marines sign up, this is why they join the Marine Corps, is to serve," Commanding Officer of the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Lt. Col. Melina Mesta said during a trip to The Sierra National Forest last weekend.The 233 Marines and Sailors with the 7th ESB deployed September 19th after a day of firefighting training on Camp Pendleton. Lt. Col. Mesta said this task force is equipped with the right tools to pivot on a moment's notice to an unconventional mission like this."Like we say in the Marine Corps, 'Any Climb, Any Place.' We like to adapt to our environment and anything that is asked of us," Operation Chief Master Sgt. Juan Guillen said.Mesta described the mission at the Creek Fire as a lot of manual labor, "really hard dirty work with some long hours."Master Sgt. Guillen said Marines and Sailors wake up at 5:30 a.m., wash up, and go to a briefing. Then they head out around 7:30 a.m. and work the fire line until around 6:30 p.m. That's an 11 hour work day every day, with breaks to keep them safe."They're assessing any hot spots any areas that could potentially flare up." And the rest of my life growing up I never thought I’d find her again," said Crippen.Doris and Bev Boro were two long-lost sisters and are now reunited at Methodist Fremont Health."Our search is over, we don't have to look anymore," said Crippen.Boro is a medication aide at the hospital, and when she recently saw a list of patient names, one caught her attention -- Crippen's. So she wrote a message on a dry erase board since Doris is hard of hearing."I went in with one of the whiteboards and I said to her, 'is your father Wendall Huffman?' She goes 'that's my daddy', and I pointed at myself and I go 'that's mine, too.'" said Boro.Crippen, who has since recovered from COVID-19, was in the hospital for a broken arm after a fall due to weakness caused by the virus."I looked at her and I looked at her some more after she asked me about being Wendall Huffman’s daughter... she has to be some kind of relation to me,” said Doris.Boro said she was nervous about breaking the news and for Crippen it was emotional."She said 'I am your sister, Bev.' And I literally stood up out of the chair and burst into tears. It's just a happy feeling. It's been 53 years since I've seen her when she was a baby,” said Crippen.Boro had researched her sister before, without luck, but now thanks to a global pandemic, they both feel their world is a little more complete."If it wasn't for that, I would have never found her. Four lions at the Barcelona Zoo tested positive for coronavirus, according to veterinary officials. This is the second report of large felines contracting the disease at a zoo.Barcelona Zoo in Spain says two staff members also tested positive for COVID-19 during the outbreak last month, in addition to four of their lions, according to the BBC: Zala, Nima, Run Run, who are all females, and one male, Kiumbe.
