French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen plans to set up a regional procurement center in Shanghai. German chemicals giant BASF has increased investment to upgrade its innovation center in Shanghai after investing a 10-billion-U.S.-dollar production facility in Zhanjiang. The city is also home to Tesla's gigafactory under construction with an investment of over 50 billion yuan (7.1 billion U.S. dollars).
The construction of a science park covering about 200 hectares started on Sept. 26. Gong Shangyun, an official with the Nansha government, said the park will be completed in 2022.
"We hope the US will exercise prudence and refrain from escalating tensions or undermining international and regional peace," said Hua.
The number of local residents affected by the quake increased to 10,883, with 2,417 people relocated. A total of 132 houses collapsed after the quake, with 161 houses severely damaged and 4,880 others slightly damaged, the bureau said.
