SAN DIEGO (AP) — A California tribe whose ancestral lands span across the U.S.-Mexico border is suing the Trump administration to block construction of a section of border wall that the Kumeyaay people say is desecrating sacred burial sites. The La Posta Band of Diegueno Mission Indians filed the lawsuit in federal court in San Diego on Tuesday seeking to temporarily halt construction of the wall until the tribe can protect its religious and cultural heritage. La Posta is one of 12 bands of the Kumeyaay people. The tribe wants its members to be able to monitor work and interrupt it to recover human remains and cultural items uncovered during construction. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 66-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with wounds he suffered in a stabbing in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego and a 19-year-old suspect was in custody.The victim was walking in the area of Westview Parkway and Galvin Avenue about 9:10 p.m. Friday when he got into an argument with the suspect, who stabbed him three times, then ran away through the parking lot of a business, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was stabbed in the chest and suffered cuts to his stomach and finger. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries, Heims said.Police searched the area and located the suspect, identified as Dejon Heard, and took him into custody, Heims said.Anyone who witnessed the stabbing was asked to call San Diego police Northeastern Division detectives at 858-538-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580- 8477. 929

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego was the site of the first big outbreak at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s 221 detention centers. The origins of the outbreak are uncertain, but in interviews with The Associated Press, workers and detainees reveal shortcomings in how the private company that manages the center handled the disease: There was an early absence of facial coverings, and a lack of cleaning supplies. Symptomatic detainees were mixed with others. SAN DIEGO (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday began testing the use of body cameras by its employees at nine locations, potentially leading to a broad rollout by the nation's largest law enforcement agency that would make it the first federal agency to use the devices on a large scale.Customs and Border Protection previously concluded in 2015 after a yearlong study that body cameras were not yet suitable for widespread use due to cost, technological challenges and the need for labor union approval. However, it said the cameras had potential in limited circumstances.The agency's review also found that cameras used in field tests did not function well in the rugged, remote conditions in which many Border Patrol agents work."Some fared better than others," said Austin Skero, director of the agency's law enforcement safety and compliance directorate.Customs and Border Protection officials said technology has evolved since the 2015 test, and the cameras used in the current field tests will build on lessons learned in the previous test. The equipment was provided by several manufacturers the agency declined to name.Officials also said the potential benefits of the cameras include providing evidence in criminal cases, improved training and strengthening of job performance and accountability.Employees will be expected to turn the cameras on and off during incidents involving use of force and encounters that "are likely to become hostile, adversarial or confrontational," Skero said.Congress agreed to fund the tests by allocating million in the Obama administration's final year.The tests during under then-President Barack Obama came amid mounting scrutiny of employees using excessive force.
