SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The FBI is investigating following a hazmat situation in La Jolla Thursday afternoon. According to authorities, the incident started around 1 p.m. on the 9400 block of La Jolla Farms Road near UCSD and the Scripps Reserve trail. Throughout the afternoon, people who appeared to be workers at the home could be seen sitting outside with bags wrapped around their lower legs. The unidentified substance is being cleaned up by hazmat crews and, at this time, it's unclear what led to the situation. Neighbors say the home was being rented out and a new tenant recently moved in.The Department of Environmental Health said they found a contaminant and that it is contained with no threat to the community.The final Hazmat crews left around 7:30 p.m. 798

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to send a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom requesting they be allowed to reopen the local economy.The board voted 4-1, with Supervisor Nathan Fletcher voting "no," to take further steps into reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic. The letter requests San Diego County be permitted to reopen gyms, hotels, nail salons, wineries and breweries, churches at full capacity, theme parks, youth sports, charter and fishing boats, community pools, and museums, Supervisor Jim Desmond tweeted.Following the vote, Desmond said in a statement that it will be up to Newsom, but that most of the board believes the county is ready.RELATED: Passive recreation activities now allowed at San Diego County beaches"Just now, the Board approved a plan telling the Governor we are ready to open for business. The two women are seen on one side of the road, glancing around.On the other side is the backpack-toting man, who appears to peer inside a mailbox.Soon after, a car pulls into Amanda Sewell's house.The women walk by and watch Sewell's aunt walk into the home, before possibly signaling the man.The man then walks up to Sewell's mailbox, grabs a bundle of mail and walks away. 642

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The county Medical Examiner has identified the second teenager killed after a car lost control on a Mission Valley freeway and crashed before bursting into flames last weekend.David Chavez, 15, was killed by blunt force trauma, thermal cause, and smoke inhalation according to the ME in the tragic crash on Jan. 18.Police say a car was speeding at about 3 a.m. on the westbound Interstate 8 ramp to southbound State Route 163 when the driver lost control and hit a guardrail, sending the car down an embankment where it a tree and caught fire.RELATED:Community helping family of teen killed in Mission Valley crashAt least 2 dead in fiery freeway crash in Mission ValleyAnother 15-year-old, identified as Gustavo Beltran, was also killed in the crash.The driver, a 17-year-old, was arrested by CHP on suspicion of DUI.
