Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won her first bid for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday in New York's 14th congressional district.Ocasio-Cortez defeated Republican John C. Cummings and Michelle Caruso-Cabrera of the Serve America Movement party.The Associated Press called the race at 10:08 p.m. ET.Supporters never considered the race to be competitive, yet Ocasio-Cortez and Cummings both fundraised aggressively.According to the New York Times, Cummings raised roughly .6 million. Which, according to Open Secrets, a research group that tracks money in politics, made the race the second most expensive House race in the country.According to campaigns' fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, Ocasio-Cortez raised more than million throughout the campaign. Renowned Tulsa saxophonist and Race Massacre survivor, Hal Singer, has passed away, just a few months shy of his 101st birthday.The French city of Chatou announced the news of his death. Singer resided in the town for more than 20 years."Weakened in recent years, Hal Singer has passed out peacefully surrounded by his wife and family," the release stated.Singer, who was born in Tulsa on Oct. 8, 1919, would go on to have an "exceptional 70-year career, from Duke Ellington to Ray Charles, to Billie Holiday," the release said.According to the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame website, Singer topped the R&B charts in Sept. 1948 with his instrumental recording "Corn Bread.""The City just lost a friend, an artist, and a great man," the release concluded. President George W. Bush gave a tearful eulogy to his father, President George H.W. Bush, Wednesday at a state funeral for the 41st president of the United States.The younger Bush choked up as he quoted his father's inaugural address from 1989."In his inaugural address, the 41st President of the United States said this: 'We cannot hope to only leave our children a bigger car, a bigger bank account,'" Bush said. President Donald Trump traveled again Tuesday to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside Washington, where his wife, Melania, is convalescing after a kidney procedure.The first lady underwent the procedure on Monday, and her office said she would likely remain in the hospital for the rest of the week. Trump wasn't at the facility during the procedure but flew there aboard his Marine One helicopter later Monday afternoon.He flew there again on Tuesday, arriving just past 4 p.m. and remained for roughly 80 minutes. Earlier, he began remarks on Capitol Hill by thanking the "incredible" doctors at Walter Reed for his wife's care. 654
