(KGTV) - Residents of a small mobile home park across the street from the proposed Newland Sierra development, Measure B on the March ballot, say they fear a "yes" vote to approve the project could do irreparable damage to their community.Deer Springs Oaks is made up of 32 mobile homes off Deer Springs Road, directly across the street from the Newland Sierra site. That plan, if voters approve, would allow for around 2,100 new homes, along with open space and infrastructure changes. Residents of Deer Springs Oaks, funded by the nearby Golden Door Spa, have been making the case to voters that Measure B will make a bad traffic situation worse and create a dangerous trap in a wildfire zone. But they also worry that the project could have a more direct impact on their homes. The building of Newland Sierra would require the widening of Deer Springs Road, as well as changes to the nearby interchange with I-15. While Newland Sierra developers say these will not affect the mobile home park, the residents say they are not getting any guarantees from Newland Sierra, the County, or CalTrans."We don't know what they're going to do, how they're going to do it," said resident Georgeann Higgins. "They're so arrogant as to not inform us. These are our homes." Lawyers representing many of the residents obtained plans for some of the alternatives being considered by CalTrans. At least two would cause major changes to Deer Springs Oaks, including the possibility of residents losing property and a road being moved to go through the center of the complex."They impact the park big time," said resident Tony Eason. "They would destroy the park."A spokesperson from Newland Sierra told 10News that the maps being used by the residents are outdated. He sent 10News at statement: “This is just another desperate attempt by the Golden Door Spa and its army of lawyers to try to confuse and scare voters. This alternative was one of more than a dozen road improvement alternatives that was studied. It was ultimately rejected by CalTrans and is no longer an option. The real truth is that Measure B will create affordably priced homes for working families with open space, parks and trails - a better choice than the current General Plan that permits a two million square foot mega-commercial development, mansions and parking lots." (KGTV) -- The Escondido Union School District Thursday confirmed two people at Mission Middle School tested positive for coronavirus.District officials were notified Tuesday of the positive tests, and officials noted the cases were separate and not related."In an abundance of caution and in alignment with guidance from the San Diego County public health department, all students and staff members who were determined to be potential close contacts with either individual were notified immediately, and were advised to begin a 14-day quarantine", said district spokeswoman Michelle Breier.According to the district, the quarantine includes 25 students, five teachers, and three classroom aides.Under Escondido Union’s hybrid model, some students returned for in-person classes in late September.The district has implemented health and safety measures for students and staff, including limiting class sizes, enforcing social distancing, requiring face masks, conducting health screenings, and swift contact tracing following notification of a positive test.Escondido Union School District is a preschool-grade eight elementary district that is entirely separate from the high school district. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Students at Classic Academy High School will return to school Tuesday without one of their own, who was tragically killed in a car accident over the weekend. Jonah Staebell died early Saturday morning when the truck he was riding in crashed. CHP officials say the accident happened at about 2:35 a.m. on Saturday on Summit Drive and Old Pasqual Road. Officers say seven teens were riding in a pick-up truck when the 18-year-old driver lost control and overturned. Five teens, including Staebell, were riding in the bed of the truck and all of them were ejected. Staebell died at the hospital. Staebell's principal, Dana Moen spoke to 10News Monday night. Moen remembered Jonah as a beloved student who did well in the classroom and in athletics. Moen says Staebell played football, lacrosse, and was a dancer. School officials tell 10News students officially go back to school on Tuesday and grief counselors will be on-site for as long as they're needed. According to Moen, the other teens involved in the accident were all treated at the hospital but have since been released. (KGTV) -- The Escondido Union School District is choosing to start the new school year online, and the district is also pushing back its start date to August 25.The decision was approved at the Board of Education meeting Thursday night.The board also approved two hybrid learning options for when the school district is ready to resume in-person classes.For grades kindergarten through 5th, the "Modified Classic" will provide students with four half-days on campus and one day of remote learning.For grades 6th through 8th, the "Two-Day Hybrid" will provide students with two full days on campus and three days of remote learning.EUSD does have plans to reopen its campuses by the end of September; however, the board and district said they would both continue to monitor the health conditions and make changes as needed. 848

Facebook has taken down 652 pages, accounts and groups it says were part of a coordinated disinformation campaign.
