BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang on Thursday called for technical upgrades to enhance workplace safety and improve emergency rescue systems.     When visiting an exhibition on workplace safety and emergency rescue equipment held by the State Administration of Work Safety, Zhang pointed out that workplace safety is closely related to the interests of the people and the country.     China has kept increasing spending on technical improvements to better workplace safety with advanced equipment, which has played an important role in accident prevention and emergency rescue, he said.     Zhang called for more efforts in technical innovation, scientific management, well-trained rescue teams, and improved emergency rescue systems to improve workplace safety.

BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States are ratcheting up efforts to prepare for strategic and economic talks this summer as U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner continues his visit to Beijing.     "China-U.S. relations show a good momentum of development as both sides have kept close contacts since the new U.S. administration took office," President Hu Jintao told Geithner at the start of their meeting Tuesday afternoon. JINAN, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen people were confirmed dead and two others fatally injured in a fireworks explosion Saturday afternoon in east China's Shandong Province. The explosion took place at an unlicensed fireworks processing factory in Yangzhuangzi Village of Qingyun Township, Qingyun County, at 1:30 p.m. Three rooms owned by villager Yang Ziye were toppled, according to the Qingyun county government.
