BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- China wishes to bring its cooperation with the World Bank to higher levels, Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here Monday, the 30th anniversary of China's cooperation with the bank."Both sides should seize the new cooperation opportunities as China strives to restructure economy, improve people's livelihood and maintain sustainable development," he said during his meeting with Robert Zoellick, President of the World Bank.China and the World Bank have extensive cooperation in poverty relief and development projects both in China and other countries in the world. XINING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ten people died while 34 others were injured after a passenger bus plunged over a bridge in a mountainous region in northwest China's Qinghai province on Saturday, local police said.The accident occurred in Dulan county, Mongolian-Tibetan-Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Haixi, at 4: 59 a.m. Saturday, police said. At least two children were among the dead.The injured are being treated in a major hospital in the nearby Golmud city, police and hospital sources said. Three of them remain in critical conditions.An initial probe said the driver's misjudgment was to blame.

  

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's financial sector should better serve the transformation of economic growth pattern in the country while keeping high alert on possible risks, Vice Premier Wang Qishan said Friday.Wang said the financial sector should give full play to monetary policies and continue to optimize lending structures to boost weak points like agricultural sectors, small enterprises and innovation.Lending to sectors with excessive energy consumption, high emission of pollutants, or with overcapacity, must be strictly limited, he told a group of provincial or ministerial-level officials who attended a training seminar in Beijing.The seminar closing on Friday focused on how to promote the reform of financial sector in China while guarding against financial risks, which Wang said was highly necessary considering current situation.Wang urged officials at various levels to continually learn to upgrade their knowledge and working abilities in the financial sector.As China's financial sector was still in an initial growth phase, it should unswervingly boost reforms and its opening-up, promote mechanism innovation and complete the development of the financial market system, he said.

  

TOKYO, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Visiting China's special representative on Korean Peninsula affairs Wu Dawei said Tuesday that Beijing plans to put forward fresh measures to resume the stalled six-party talks at an early date.Wu made the comment to reporters after meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, but he did not elaborate on what measures China will propose to bring Pyongyang back to the negotiation, which have been suspended since December 2009.Wu, who chairs the six-party talks involving Democratic People' s Republic of Korea and South Korea, China, Japan, Russia and the United States, said China needs to discuss the proposal with these member states and wants to hear their views about it.The Chinese envoy held talks with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku after meeting with Okada.The Japanese side agreed with China that the stability and peace of the Korean Peninsula are in the interest of all parties concerned, and vowed to continue push forward the six-party talks. Both sides said they will work to restart the stalled negotiation as soon as possible.Wu arrived in Tokyo on Saturday for a four-day visit to Japan after visiting Pyongyang and Seoul.
