Inside the Newark Liberty International Airport Monday night, an Alaska Airlines employee spotted two men who she thought looked suspicious. When the employee approached them, the men started running and she screamed "evacuate," a source with knowledge of the incident told CNN, based on preliminary information. In one of the busiest subway stations in New York—amidst the bell ringers, toy salesmen, and those espousing religious beliefs—sits a woman wearing a leopard print coat and a smile, hoping to get the attention of people in her own, subdued way. She has a sign that reads, “Welcome to Grammar Table.” Ellen Jovin is a self-professed grammar nerd. "Conjugating verbs is a good time for me," Jovin says. She had always found herself posting interesting, grammar-related articles on Facebook. Then, she had an idea. "Being on the computer too much makes you grumpy, and it's not good for overall life happiness, so I decided that I should take it to the streets,” Jovin says. “So, I’m doing what I did online, here." Jovin’s obsession with language is rooted in something really quite simple. "Language is connected to who we are as human beings, how we relate to one another, what ties us together,” she says. What surprises her most about interactions with people? “The warm fuzzy feeling I get from it,” Jovin says. “Because sometimes the conversations are so moving I almost feel like I might cry. See, I just used like as a conjunction right there.” She says she gets the occasional funny looks, but a lot of people love what Jovin is doing. Jovin offers grammar help in several different languages, even offering help to tourists visiting New York from other countries. It's these kinds of discussions that Jovin says now, in divided times, we should all be having more of, because good grammar is something we can all get behind."And people are happy to bond over something that they have in common, as opposed to focus on what tears them apart." 1662

It has been more than five years since a New York City police officer put Eric Garner in a fatal chokehold during a struggle between Garner and police. After years of frustration, Garner's family applauded NYPD and Police Commissioner James O'Neill for firing Daniel Pantaleo.Emerald Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, said she will continue fighting against police brutality. "Eric Garner was killed 5 years ago - it took 5 years for officer to be fired, " she said. "I don't want another Eric Garner. I will do everything in my power to never see another Eric Garner, I don't want to see another video of a person being choked...it wasn't supposed to happen to him and it wasn't supposed to happen."Emerald Garner thought the decision should have come sooner."Regardless of however you came up to your decision, you finally made a decision that should have been made five years ago," she said about O'Neill's decision. O'Neill said the decision behind Monday's announcement has been one he has thought about since being installed as commissioner in September 2016. "It's not something that I can make over a few hours - I have been thinking about this since the day I was sworn in as police commissioner," O'Neill said. "The decision was made in the last couple of days."Gwen Carr, Garner's mother, had a message for Daniel Pantaleo and his lawyer Stuart London."Pantaleo, you, your regime, London, you can appeal all you want. But I'm still out here, I'm out here for the long run. You come out here against me, I'm out here. And you cannot scare me away," Carr said. "I lost my son," Carr added. "You cannot replace that. You can get another job. Maybe at Burger King."Although Pantaleo was fired, he was not criminally charged for the fatal chokehold. The US Department of Justice decided earlier this year not to press charges. London confirmed with CNN that he plans on appealing NY{D's decision on Pantaleo's behalf. 1938

Kevin Spacey and the man who accuses the actor of groping him may come face to face in a Massachusetts courtroom Monday, in a case that has taken several twists and turns before the criminal trial has even begun. At issue in Monday's pretrial hearing is the cell phone on which the accuser texted his girlfriend and sent a video during the alleged assault. The prosecution says it obtained data from the phone, which it shared with the defense, and then the phone was returned to the man's family. Spacey's defense team wants to examine the phone itself, claiming that exculpatory evidence may have been deleted before it was given to police and prosecutors.Spacey, 59, faces criminal charges of indecent assault and battery in connection to the alleged July 2016 incident. The former "House of Cards" star has pleaded not guilty. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.Judge Thomas Barrett ruled in June the defense was entitled to inspect the phone. However, the accuser and his family have said they don't have it and don't know where it is.Barrett extended the deadline for turning the phone over until Monday and said that if it's not found, the accuser, his attorney and his mother must appear in court to testify about its whereabouts.Surprise moveMeanwhile, in an abrupt about-face Friday, the alleged victim's lawyer announced that a civil lawsuit filed against Spacey a week earlier had been dropped.Spacey's accuser, who was an 18-year-old busboy at a Nantucket bar at the time of the alleged assault, filed the civil complaint on June 26. In it, the accuser said Spacey bought him "multiple alcoholic beverages" before he then forcibly touched and fondled his genitals -- the same allegations he made in the ongoing criminal case.CNN is not naming the accuser because he is an alleged victim of sexual assault. The accuser's attorney, Mitchell Garabedian, told CNN via email Friday that he and his client voluntarily dropped the lawsuit and that he would have no further comment. The civil lawsuit accused Spacey of explicit sexual behavior and infliction of mental distress. It demanded judgment in an amount to be determined by a jury, including costs, interests and attorney fees. What happened to the phone? The accuser and his mother -- 2276
