(KGTV) — City officials are investigating an incident caught on video between an African American man and a white La Mesa Police officer that led to the officer being placed on leave.The video, posted to Facebook this week, shows the incident that occurred at the Grossmont Trolley Station on Fletcher Parkway. The city said the footage appears to "indicate that a LMPD officer detained an African American male, and in the process, the LMPD officer administered physical contact."The video footage starts after an altercation had already begun between Amaurie Johnson and the police officer. It then shows the escalation and Johnson being placed in handcuffs. Johnson is told that he's being charged with assaulting an officer and led to a police vehicle.RELATED: La Mesa officer in arrest video placed on leave, pending investigation“For that situation to escalate the way it did, and for the cop, you know, to stand firm in his beliefs that I should be detained or taken in with no prior evidence or reasoning, I think that should be seen by the people,” Johnson said in an interview with 10News.He said he was waiting for his friend at the trolley stop, near a building where that friend lives.Johnson said an officer started questioning him and he gave him the information that he wanted.The nearly six-minute video shows a heated verbal exchange between Johnson and the officer. It also shows the officer forcefully push Johnson into a sitting position onto a nearby bench.Johnson told 10News at no point did he resist or assault anyone."I feel as though people that look like me, um, feel the same way I do and we're tired of it. We're tired of having to deal with stuff like that,” he said.Johnson said he was cited with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.The La Mesa Police Department did not respond to our request for information about the citations. The department also didn’t respond to our request for the officer’s body camera video or release the name of the officer involved in the incident.On Thursday, the La Mesa Police Department issued a statement, saying they are "aware of a video circulating on social media depicting an interaction between a police officer and a citizen at the Grossmont Trolley Station yesterday. We immediately began a review of the incident to find out what happened. The La Mesa Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct very seriously and asks that any member of the public with information or video regarding this incident contact us at (619) 667-1400."The city says it has started a special investigation into the incident and that the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. 3147

(KGTV) — National Geographic and Fox Networks will investigate astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson over allegations of sexual misconduct, according to reports.Accounts by two women were published Thursday, claiming Tyson misbehaved in a sexually inappropriate manner with them, according to Patheos.com. The women, a Bucknell University professor and former assistant to Tyson according to the accounts, both claimed the astrophysicist made inappropriate sexual advances toward them.Tyson has not commented on the allegations against him, according to the Associated Press. In a statement to the AP, the producers of the television show "Cosmo" said: "The credo at the heart of 'Cosmos' is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. The producers of 'Cosmos' can do no less in this situation."Tyson was the host of "Cosmos" on Fox in 2014 and a new edition of the series was set to air on National Geographic next year sometime. "Cosmo" producers said they will conduct a thorough investigation.Tyson has appeared on numerous television programs and is the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 1205

(KGTV) — The Navy will not review three SEALs connected to the case involving Chief Edward Gallagher.Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly said Wednesday that he has directed the Chief of Naval Operations to "terminate" the Trident Review cases, which could have ultimately removed the SEALs from the elite force.Modly advised in part that any issues with the SEALs be dealt with through other "administrative measures."RELATED:Trump says Navy won’t remove Gallagher’s SEAL’s designationEsper says Trump ordered him to allow SEAL to keep statusPentagon chief fires Navy secretary over SEAL controversy“I have directed the Chief of Naval Operations to terminate the Trident Reviews for three Naval Special Warfare officers. Given the unique circumstances of these three remaining cases, I have determined that any failures in conduct, performance, judgment, or professionalism exhibited by these officers be addressed through other administrative measures as appropriate, such as letters of instruction or performance observations on their officer fitness reports," Modly wrote.Modly added that the decision to toss the cases should not be interpreted as "diminishing" of the Navy SEALs."Navy uniformed leaders have my full confidence that they will continue to address challenging cultural issues within the Naval Special Warfare community, instill good order and discipline, and enforce the very highest professional standards we expect from every member of that community. These are standards that scores of brave Sailors have given their lives to establish and preserve," Modly wrote.The three Navy SEALs were awaiting a Trident Review in connection with the case of Chief Edward Gallagher. The Navy had intended to hold a Trident Review of Gallagher after he was acquired of murdering a captured ISIS teen and firing at Iraqi civilians, but convicted of taking a photo next to the body. President Trump, though, reversed Gallagher's demotion before the Navy announced it would review the case.Gallagher's Trident Review never came. Defense Secretary Mark Esper allowed Gallagher to retire without the possibility of being removed from the SEALs — at the President's direction — shortly after firing then-Navy Secretary Richard Spencer over his handling of the case. 2281

A 6-year-old girl shared her thoughts on Baltimore's crime through a heartfelt Facebook video as the city deals with more than 30 murders in the month of April.In the video, you can see 6-year-old Kelsey wearing a shirt that says "Don't Shoot Let Me Grow Up" as she begins to share her feeling on the numerous killings that are plaguing the city that she calls home."Why can't y'all just let us live, why can't y'all just let us grow up, why can't you just let us have fun when we want to play with our friends. Well, we can't because y'all out there shooting kids, shooting babies, shooting mothers and fathers," said Kelsey.Kelsey began to make an emotional outpour as she cried sharing the frustrations that she feels as a child in Baltimore City."This is not a world you let other people shoot in, we want our lives to be better than this," said Kelsey. "It's so many killings that I cannot believe it."The video has reached almost 4 million views and more than 200 shares on the original video posted on her mother's Facebook page.  Kelsey asked her mother, Kelly Ellerbee to record her message. 1143
