New restaurants and hundreds of much-needed apartments could be coming to Poway's main road. But that proposal could also spell the end for Poway Fun Bowl, a longtime hangout for friends and local families. Fairfield Housing is proposing to buy the Alley's land and the Carriage Center strip mall next door - to build 216 apartments, 13,000 square-feet of commercial space, and a public plaza. The Poway City Council is holding an information session on Tuesday, and will give the developer feedback on the idea.Both the alley's owner and the mall management stressed that this is nothing close to a done deal, and that both have no immediate plans to close."Although people have expressed an interest in redeveloping the site, the owner is not currently under contract to sell the property," said Bobby Israel, the mall's property manager. Fairfield Housing didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.Casey Nezhoda, who owns Bargain Hunter's Thrift Shop in the mall, said there's been confusion among many of the mom-and-pop owners about what's next."Because it’s been kind of like a guessing game, of well, what’s going to happen with our shopping center?" she said, noting moving 7,000 square feet of merchandise would be a lot of work.But Andrew Weiss, who was shopping in the mall, said the project sounds like a good opportunity."This mall's a little bit old, so redevelopment would be nice, plus Poway's a great place to be," he said. NEW YORK, N.Y. – Rush Limbaugh provided an update on his "roller coaster" battle with lung cancer Monday, saying a recent scan showed “some progression” and that it’s “in the wrong direction.”The conservative talk radio host has been seeking treatment since he announced in February that he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.In a statement posted on his website, Limbaugh said his scans had previously shown that his treatments had “rendered the cancer dormant,” meaning they had stopped the growth of the cancer.“It had been reduced, and it had become manageable,” he said.Limbaugh said he has stage 4 lung cancer and that his team has adjusted his chemotherapy drugs with hopes of keeping additional progression at bay as long as possible.“The idea now is to keep it where it is or maybe have it reduce again. We’ve shown that that is possible. If it happened once, it can happen again,” he said. “So that’s the objective of the current treatment plan.”Limbaugh did address that his cancer is likely terminal.“It’s tough to realize that the days where I do not think I’m under a death sentence are over. NEW YORK CITY — For the second straight night, demonstrators rallied in support of a Staten Island bar that has been blatantly violating coronavirus restrictions despite the rising spread of the virus in the area.More than 100 protesters packed the area outside Mac's Public House on Wednesday night to support the bar that New York City Sheriff's deputies shut down on Tuesday.Demonstrators questioned the reasoning behind COVID-19 restrictions and were critical that certain businesses — like chain retail stores — were allowed to stay open while local bars have been shut down.On Tuesday, the New York Sheriff's Office initiated surveillance at Mac's Public House after receiving numerous complaints that the bar was violating state health orders that have shuttered indoor dining at restaurants and instituted a 10 p.m. curfew.Deputies said that a sign on the bar's window declares itself in an "autonomous zone."Authorities said plain-clothes deputies went in, were seated at an indoor table, and were able to order food and alcoholic beverages in exchange for a mandatory "donation" of .Deputies also say they saw other patrons also eating and drinking inside the bar.At 5:40 p.m., deputies entered the establishment through the unlocked front door and found 14 people inside the bar.The sheriff's office said the deputies issued appearance tickets to multiple employees, including a bartender and cook, for various violations of city and state laws.Co-owner and manager Daniel Presti was arrested for obstructing governmental administration when he refused to leave the business, officials said.Presti, 34, was taken to the sheriff's office, issued appearance tickets and released from custody, according to authorities.Following the arrest, about a dozen officers lined up in front of the bar, blocking patrons from entering.On Tuesday night, the sheriff's Office said a crowd of about 50 people showed up to protest the shutdown. NEWTOWN, Connecticut — Elementary students at a Connecticut school where a mass shooting took the lives of 20 students and six adults in 2012 went home early today because of a bomb threat.Police said they believe the threat made toward Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown was a hoax but cleared the school as a precaution.
