NANJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao reaffirmed during the weekend that China would unwaveringly adhere to its moderately easy monetary policy in face of economic difficulties and challengesWen said China would maintain both its proactive fiscal and moderate monetary policies, and work on economic restructuring to strengthen recovery from the global downturn.     During a three-day inspection tour that ended Sunday in the eastern Jiangsu Province, one of China's economic powerhouses, Wen said China should focus on maintaining stable and rapid economic development and accelerating economic restructuring.     China's economy still faced hardships and challenges because of the gloomy international economic outlook, he said. With weakened external demand, Chinese enterprises faced significant overcapacity, while domestic demand was still restricted by various factors.     The impact of governmental stimulation of the economy would gradually lessen and long-term policies needed time to pay off, Wen said. Therefore, China's macroeconomic policy would not change.     The premier's remarks echoed a similar announcement made by a senior economic planning official Friday that overseas market conditions were still severe and the country's economic policy direction would remain unchanged.     Although the country's economy was showing signs of recovery, it still faced many difficulties in maintaining stability, said Zhu Zhixin, vice minister in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission.     On his third visit to Jiangsu since the global financial crisis hit, Wen also praised "better-than-expected" results in eliminating pollution from the country's third largest fresh water lake Taihu over the past two years, since a blue algae outbreak in 2007.     Wen was told that more than 3,000 small chemical plants surrounding the lake had been closed and about 1,000 new facilities had been installed to treat sewage from nearby villages into the lake.

BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo met here Monday with Speaker Luka Bebic of the Croatian Assembly, vowing to facilitate closer parliamentary exchanges and cooperation between both countries.     "China highly values its relations with Crotia, and regards the country as a reliable good friend and partner in southeast Europe," Wu told Bebic in Beijing. He vowed joint efforts with the country to cement bilateral exchanges in all fields to build better future for both sides. Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), hailed the progress of bilateral ties since the forging of diplomatic ties 17 years ago, citing frequent high-level visits, remarkable trade cooperation and increasing exchanges in cultural, technological and educational areas. BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the country's top aircraft manufacturer, said Sunday total sales revenue in its auto business would reach 30 billion yuan (about 4.39 billion U.S. dollars) by 2017.     Geng Ruguang, deputy general manager of AVIC, said making big passenger vehicles has become the the corporations's guiding plan for development in its auto business.     Geng revealed the figure at a ceremony marking AVIC and its partner Volvol's new product Silver 900 series going into production line.     The series is a new type of big and luxurious passenger vehicles, 12 meters long, which could be used for road transportation, tourist reception, and military equipment.     The Silver 900 series was developed by Xi'an Silver Bus Corporation, a joint venture established in 1994 by AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry Co. ltd, and the Swedish bus and truck maker Volvo company.     The Xi'an Silver Bus Corporation expects to produce annually 4,000 vehicles by 2014. BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese legislator said Wednesday that China will promote social exchanges with Myanmar to boost bilateral ties.     "We attach importance to and support friendly exchanges and cooperation between social groups and organizations in China and Myanmar, which will contribute to the development of bilateral ties," said Zhou Tienong, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in a meeting with a delegation from a government-supported organization from Myanmar.     Zhou, also president of the Chinese Association for International Understanding, briefed the eight-member delegation on China's political and economic situation, its measures in tackling the global downturn and pledged to boost economic and trade cooperation with the international community, including Myanmar. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China resolutely opposes U.S. move to start anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations into seamless steel pipes imported from China, the Ministry of Commerce(MOC) said.     The current hardships facing the U.S. steel industry was because consumption and demand waned after the financial crisis. "Blindly blaming Chinese imports of dumping or subsidies is lack of factual bases, which China strongly opposes," MOC announced in a statement on its website Saturday.     The statement came after U.S. Department of Commerce said Wednesday that it had initiated anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations at the request of the U.S. Steel Corporation, V&M Star LP, TMK IPSCO and the United Steelworkers (USW).     The U.S. petitioners requested a 98.37-percent anti-dumping duty against the Chinese imports and additional countervailing duties to offset what they allege are Chinese government subsidies.     The case was the seventh such investigations this year launched by the U.S. Department of Commerce against Chinese imports that included claims of both dumping and subsidies, MOC said.     Resorting to trade protectionism would not solve the real problem, instead it would hurt the interests of U.S. downstream steel businesses as well as bilateral trade, it said.
