SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a shortened and fanless baseball season underway, there is still confusion and legal challenges over refunds for tickets.Sydnie Gallegos lives in San Diego, but she is a loyal Dodgers fan. Every year, she and moe than a dozen of her family members see a game live at Dodgers Stadium. “We do it once a year, every year, for the last six years,” Gallegos said.Gallegos, like so many others, were left in the dark wondering what to do about tickets they bought.Her family bought tickets to a July 4th game back in March. “It was for 15 of me and my family members. That’s over ,400 just in tickets,” Gallegos said.Although Major League Baseball announced refund policies in April, Gallegos said they didn’t hear anything until July. They received an email from the Dodgers, offering ticketholders “with an account credit for all 2020 tickets and parking (plus applicable fees).”The team also added a 10 percent bonus credit, which could be applied for the 2021 season. A spokesperson for the Padres also said they’re also offering fans a refund or use their credit towards the 2021 season.Despite refunds now being issued to fans, a class action lawsuit over the issue continues. Several ticket buyers sued Major League Baseball, the teams, as well as StubHub, Ticketmaster, and Live Nation. The attorneys for the plaintiffs said they are still moving forward with the lawsuit because they “continue to pursue their claims so that each ticket purchaser for the MLB 2020 season will receive a full refund as soon as possible.”“As the season will have no fan attendance, Defendants have no reason to keep any of the ticket purchasers’ money,” attorney Blake Yagman wrote to Team 10. 1712

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A man was arrested last month after allegedly using a body bag and gurney to steal from a deceased man’s home, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.On August 31st, around noon, sheriff’s deputies responded to a welfare check at a Spring Valley home and discovered a 60-year-old man dead inside.They say he died of natural causes and was transported to a mortuary by a contracted independent mortuary service.A couple of days later, the victim’s family reported missing items, including a gun and a safe. They then watched surveillance video from the home and learned it had been burglarized.The alleged burglary happened about 11 hours after deputies responded to the welfare check.In the video provided by the sheriff's department, you see a man, now identified as Sammy Willie Gates, rolling a gurney and body bag out of the house and into a white van.Detectives say the body bag was full of stolen items.Gates is the owner of Mortuary Transportation services, a contracted independent mortuary service; however, deputies say his company was not used to transport the victim’s body earlier.It’s unclear how Gates would have known the home was empty.Detectives from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station served a search warrant at Gates home in unincorporated El Cajon on September 9th.Inside, they found the victim’s safe and gun, along with 16 more firearms, two additional safes, jewelry, watches, war medals, comic books, thousands of dollars in collectible coins, and multiple personal identifying documents.Detectives also found a gurney and body bag matching the items in the video in Gate’s white utility van.He was arrested and charged with felonies, including Burglary of the First Degree and Receiving Stolen Property.Gates has prior felonies and is due in court for a preliminary hearing in January. 1857

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With a string of recent fires in San Diego County and statewide, it’s no secret that so-called fire season, which California fire agencies say is now year round, is getting worse.So far this year, Cal Fire has battled nearly 3,800 wildfires that have so far scorched more than 292,000 acres.That figure shows a sharp increase from previous years and is far above average for this time of year.According to Cal Fire, the last five years have, on average, seen just over 118,800 acres burned statewide by this time."We are seeing more destructive, larger fires burning at rates that we have historically never seen," said Jonathan Cox, Cal Fire regional Battalion Chief.The increasing danger even has agencies like the US Department of Agriculture warning of the risks. As far as major fire incidents, so far this year there have been well over 100. The group is comprised of women from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Alabama.Beginning in Seattle and ending in San Diego, these first-time riders biked down the West Coast, meeting with communities and local leaders along the way to spark conversations and raise money for the long-term, rehabilitative care for children rescued from sex traffickers.This is the third year for Pedal the Pacific and this year they nearly doubled their financial goal. They ended up raising over 250 thousand dollars. The organization tells 10News, "The team just received a 0,000 donation from the Harry W. Bass Jr Foundation. The foundation says they were appalled by Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes, but they found a positive way to make a difference with their donation to Pedal the Pacific."All of the money raised will be donated to The Refuge Ranch, the largest long-term, live-in rehabilitation facility for child survivors of sex trafficking in the US. 1071

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two tropical storms bearing down on the Eastern Pacific have forced a Norwegian Bliss cruise ship to abandon its original route and stop in San Diego.The stopover for the cruise ship came just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. The ship was originally scheduled to sail from Los Angeles to several ports in Mexico but was forced to change that route due to tropical storms Willa and Vicente.The new route has the cruise ship heading for San Francisco to San Diego to Ensenada, Mexico. The ship is scheduled to depart from San Diego at 6 p.m. Wednesday.Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement that guests were alerted to the modified itinerary as soon as possible."Due to Hurricane Willa and Tropical Storm Vincente in the Eastern Pacific, we modified Norwegian Bliss’ itinerary from Los Angeles," the cruise line said. "Our onboard team is working to ensure the best vacation experience possible given these weather-related changes."Tropical storm Willa was downgraded from a Category 5 Hurricane Wednesday, but still made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.
