SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A powerful new public service campaign called "End Family Fire" launched Wednesday by the Brady Center for Gun Violence Prevention aims to promote awareness for gun safety in the home. The center says eight children are hurt or killed in a firearm accident every single day in the United States. Carol Landale with the Brady Center says the goal of the campaign is to show people that something can be done. According to the center, more than four and a half million children live in homes with loaded and unlocked guns, and three in four know where the guns in their home are stored.The term, “Family Fire” was developed specifically for this campaign and refers to a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun found in the home that results in death or injury.The Brady Center’s goal is to introduce “Family Fire” into the vocabulary of the American public, much like "Designate a Driver" and "Secondhand Smoke Kills" became powerful and effective slogans for their respective causes.  1071

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new monolith was supposed to be unveiled at a Scripps Ranch shopping center on Wednesday, but it was found destroyed hours before the introduction ceremony.Several weeks ago, a mysterious monolith appeared at the Scripps Ranch Marketplace, attracting crowds and raising questions like where it came from and who put it there.However, several days later, the monolith was removed by a group of teenagers.The theft of the monolith was disappointing for many, including Nutmeg Bakery & Café co-owner Drew Hoffus. He told ABC 10News that his business not only had a first-class view of the monolith, but it helped bring in customers.“This year has been a challenge for everyone … The landmarks helped us out a lot. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man arrested Tuesday after leading authorities on a pursuit through the East County Tuesday is being charged with two separate stabbings that occurred hours earlier.San Diego County Sheriff's (SDSO) deputies arrested Patrick Douglas, 51, near Highway 94 and Freezer Blvd. following a vehicle pursuit with deputies earlier Tuesday.Douglas was charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with two stabbings the same day in El Cajon and La Mesa.Deputies said the La Mesa stabbing occurred at the 7-Eleven at 4610 Avocado Blvd. A female delivery driver for Frito Lays, identified as 35-year-old Dina Hammond, staggered into the store with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso after having just made a delivery. 757

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A partnership with the United Way and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council pulled off a donation drive-through at SDCCU Stadium Tuesday morning that served 500 families in need.Cars holding vouchers from the various unions represented by the council lined up and proceeded through the assembly line, loading up with food and toys donated by their fellow workers.Every year, thousands of union workers make a monthly donation from their paychecks to assist their fellow working families and community members in need. This year's recipients included fire victims and other families identified by several non-profit partners, according to representatives with the Labor Council."You've got electricians and teachers out here helping school bus drivers and janitors and security guards, those who have fallen on hard times and need a little extra help," says Keith Maddox with the Labor Council.Holding two events, one in San Diego and the other in Imperial County, 650 families total were served by the annual donation drive.Feeding San Diego helps procure the food for the drive, according to Unions United/United Way of San Diego County President and CEO Nancy Sasaki. 1209

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man and a woman were struck by a trolley while riding scooters in Sherman Heights Tuesday night, according to police. According to authorities, the incident happened at 24th and Commercial Street just before 6:30 p.m. Police say the pair were riding Bird scooters west in between two sets of tracks. When a trolley came up behind they pair, they bumped into the side of one of the trolley cars. Both were taken to the hospital. Emergency crews said the woman only suffered minor injuries while the man had "more severe" injuries.  585
