As Columbus, Ohio’s mayor announced that the city’s statue of Christopher Columbus will come down, a petition is circulating to rename the city “Flavortown.”The legacy of Christopher Columbus has come into focus as the country comes to grips with the United States’ past with racism.The Christopher Columbus statue at Columbus’ City Hall is one of several across the country that are slated to come down. As of late Friday, more than 8,000 petitioners are calling for Columbus, Ohio’s renaming to Flavortown.“Columbus is an amazing city, but one whose name is tarnished by the very name itself,” the petition reads.“Why not rename the city Flavortown? The new name is twofold,” the petition adds. “For one, it honors Central Ohio's proud heritage as a culinary crossroads and one of the nation's largest test markets for the food industry. Secondly, cheflebrity Guy Fieri was born in Columbus.”Flavortown is Fieri's catchphrase, which he often says on episodes of "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives." Over the years, historians have accused Columbus of participating in slavery, murder and other atrocities against American natives in the 15th century. Despite this, Columbus was long hailed as a hero to the west, with a national holiday bestowed in his honor.“For many people in our community, the statue represents patriarchy, oppression and divisiveness. That does not represent our great city, and we will no longer live in the shadow of our ugly past,” Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther wrote in a statement. “Now is the right time to replace this statue with artwork that demonstrates our enduring fight to end racism and celebrate the themes of diversity and inclusion.”A number of residents responded to Ginther in opposition to removing the statue, citing that the statue represents the city's and country's history. 2050

(AP) — A fifth horse has died at Santa Anita this fall, the 35th overall fatality since Dec. 26 at the Southern California racetrack.G Q Covergirl injured both her front legs Friday on the training track. The 5-year-old mare was euthanized on the advice of the attending veterinarian.Trained by two-time Kentucky Derby winner Doug O'Neill, G Q Covergirl had six wins in 16 career starts and earnings of 0,730. She had won her last two starts and finished in the money in all of her six races this year. O'Neill also owned the mare in a partnership.The training track has caused the fewest number of breakdowns. However, there have been three deaths on it since the fall meet began on Sept. 27, including one that was believed to be a heart attack. An Arizona family is celebrating a major milestone. Baby Henley was born with a congenital heart defect or a hole in her heart. Weighing in at only 4 pounds and 7 ounces, there was a lot of concern about her health because she just would not eat."Because of the hole in her heart, she just could not eat, it was too difficult for her, so she struggled a lot to gain weight," said Megan Beebe, Henley's mother.So, from the age of 5 months old, Henley has relied on a feeding tube to get all of her nutrition."At one point, it was giving her 100% of her nutrition. We would put all of her formula, breast milk through the feeding tube," said Beebe.In her two years since she was born, Henley has had hundreds of doctor's appointments and five surgeries. She has also been working with a feeding therapist based out of the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona. Henley does not have cerebral palsy, but her mother tells KNXV they really liked the specialized therapist they have been working with, so they have stuck with the organization."We just had to keep working our way up, until one day she ate an entire Cheeto Puff all by herself," said Beebe.That one Cheeto Puff was a big milestone for Henley."It took her about 10 full minutes to eat one Cheeto Puff but she ate the whole Cheeto Puff all by herself, did not throw up," said Beebe, talking about the relief they felt. They were finally able to see the light at the end of the tunnel of Henley's tough road to being able to eat without the aid of a feeding tube.After 27 months, Henley's feeding tube was finally removed. It was a big moment for Beebe. She tells KNXV she sometimes could not help but feel like a failure as a mother."Our number one job is to feed her and keep her alive, and we couldn't do that," said Beebe."The day we finally got to take her feeding tube out, it was like, it was just a miracle.
