SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University is launching two task forces after a 19-year-old died earlier this month after attending a fraternity event.Dylan Hernandez died Nov. 8 after falling out of the top bunk in his dorm.In the wake of the tragedy, SDSU suspended all 14 of its fraternities. On Wednesday, it announced the creation of two task forces to address student life and attack issues that may have led to Hernandez's death. About half of the 28 members are university employees and administrators, while about five are current students. Erik Johannesen, a chapter advisor for the Delta Sigma Phi, will participate in the task force on activities and safety. "Fraternities, when they're operating well, they're the great finishing school for every young man that joins one," said Johannesen, who graduated SDSU in 1981. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's Department released data Friday giving insight into coronavirus-related enforcement over the past month in the department's jurisdictions.From June 10 to July 9, SDSO reported 673 COVID-19 related disturbances, violations, and citations — broken down into two citations, 74 disturbances, and 597 ordinance violations. SDSO says group disturbances and ordinance violations are calls made to the department and deputy-initiated incidents. Citations include Government Code 8665 and Health and Safety Code 120295, which both make violations of health orders a misdemeanor with possible fines and jail time. 650

The next day, Vasquez cashed a ,000 check written from her mother's bank account.Police told 10News the Vasquez likely shot her mother after being confronted about stealing money from the family business. Vasquez embezzled money from her mother's Mission Valley accounting business for about a year, according to police. Police believe Vasquez shot herself after learning about the possibility of cameras at the building's entry and exit.A forensic examination confirmed the handgun Vasquez used to commit suicide was the same gun used to kill Kelly.  Video surveillance also showed Vasquez was in the office with Kelly at the time of the murder. 1330

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University reported at least 13 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. The total of positive cases among students since the first day of school is now up to 20. The university says the most of the students that tested positive live off campus. Only three of the students were living on campus. Two of the students are in isolation on campus. The third student is isolating somewhere else. In a letter sent out to staff and students, school officials say the majority of the students didn't interact with any SDSU employees or go to any of the shared campus spaces. One student did briefly visit the school bookstore. San Diego State started the school year on Aug. 24, mostly with online classes. There are 2,600 students living on campus. County officials confirm they have started outbreak investigations and are working closely with the school. Over the weekend, SDSU announced they had hired security to patrol the campus from Thursday to Sunday, after hours, to monitor for any COVID-19 violations on campus. Students told ABC 10News they think the school is doing the best they can in response to COVID-19. They say they are more concerned about things in housing off campus. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several residents have reported receiving calls from San Diego Superior Court demanding money for pending court cases or face arrest.The scam has been reported by several members of the county Hispanic community, according to court officials. The caller says the potential victim has a pending case and that they must deposit money into a bank account or an arrest warrant will be issued.Scammers are using software to mask their number, so the ongoing calls will display the official court phone number in Caller ID."The Court would like to remind the public that it will not demand money over to phone to clear up cases or dismiss any warrants. When in doubt, immediately hang up and call the Court on your own," a release from San Diego Superior Court said.Law enforcement officials also recommend hanging up and calling authorities if scammers become aggressive over the phone. 908
