(KGTV) -- A 22-year-old woman was arrested after Customs and Border Protection officers searching her car discovered nearly 10 pounds of fentanyl pills hidden in various household items, a bag of Corn Nuts, and a fire extinguisher.The discovery and arrest happened at around 7 p.m. on Aug. 22, at the Calexico West Port of Entry, CBP officials said.Officials said the woman driving an Acura TSX was entering the border crossing when she was stopped by officers and questioned.According to officials, an officer “noticed inconsistencies in her story and referred her and the vehicle for a more intensive examination.”With the help from a K9 team, officers were alerted to something suspicious in the car’s trunk. Officers then found 26 packages of fentanyl hidden in items such as a bar of soap, hair cream, lotion, milk containers, a bag of Corn Nuts, and a fire extinguisher.The pills, with a street value of about 1,500, and the car were seized by officers.The woman, a U.S. citizen, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security, officials said. 1063

(KGTV) - A new study claims Californians are dishing out extra cash due to the condition of the state's roads while supporters of an effort to repeal the gas tax slammed the study for neglecting to tell the whole truth. The study, conducted by TRIP, claims that driving on California roadways costs motorists statewide an estimated billion per year. The estimate is based on vehicle operating costs as a result of driving on rough roads, time and gas lost due to traffic, and the costs of traffic accidents.The study claims 64 percent of San Diego’s major roads and highways are in either poor or mediocre condition.When it comes to San Diego’s bridges, the study claims 64 of them are deemed structurally deficient and in need of improvement.Meanwhile, supporters of the gas tax repeal slammed the study as being a PR stunt by lawmakers to get more money out of California residents. “Don’t be fooled by a PR stunt by politicians of a few projects being approved in the middle of the Gas Tax Repeal campaign. Only a fraction of the existing gas tax goes to any road projects currently with the rest stolen and wasted by politicians. We could fix all of our roads if we simply allocated 100 percent of gas tax revenues to roads, but the politicians will never do that because this has never been about fixing roads, but rather getting more of your money," said Carl DeMaio, chairman of Yes on 6, a statewide effort to repeal the tax.  1486

They were killed illegally in the Clark Mountain Herd Area."We will pursue every lead until we've arrested and prosecuted those responsible for these cruel, savage deaths, and we welcome the public's help to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice," BLM deputy director for policy and programs William Perry Pendley said.Under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, burros are protected as "living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West." As such, they can't be killed, harassed, captured or branded in 10 Western states controlled by the Department of the Interior or the US Forest Service.Details about the crimes are slim, but BLM officials told the Los Angeles Times a few of the burros were killed while drinking water from nearby springs. (KGTV) -- A small plane was forced to land on a freeway in San Clemente Monday, but no injuries were reported and no vehicles were hit.According to the California Highway Patrol, the emergency landing was reported shortly before 12:50 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near Basilone Road, north of Camp Pendleton.CHP officials said the pilot was flying from John Wayne Airport in Orange County to San Diego’s Montgomery Field when his plane began having mechanical issues while over Camp Pendleton.The pilot, who has 18 years of flying experience, was aware he needed to land immediately and considered Highway 101 [Old Pacific Highway parallel to I-5] as an emergency landing spot before choosing I-5, according to the CHP.The pilot was able to wait for a break in vehicles before guiding the aircraft safely onto the freeway. The plane landed and came to a stop on the No. 4 lane before it was eventually moved to the right shoulder.The aircraft remained on the shoulder and off the freeway lanes as of 2:20 p.m.The pilot, who was the aircraft's only occupant, was unhurt, an FAA official told ABC 10News. The official said the plane was a single-engine Piper PA24.The CHP said the pilot credited his experience and luck for safely landing the plane. 1258
