BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo said Wednesday the country regards Egypt as one of the most important strategic cooperative partners among Arabian and African nations.     "We attach great importance to the relations with Egypt," Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, told visiting Deputy Speaker of Egyptian People's Assembly Zeinab Radwan. To promote relations between China and Egypt, both influential countries in the world, conformed to the fundamental interests of the two nations and the two peoples, and was also conducive to regional and world peace and prosperity, Wu said. Wu Bangguo (R), chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), shakes hands with visiting Deputy Speaker of Egyptian People's Assembly Zeinab Radwan in Beijing, Dec. 9, 2009.    "We are ready to work with Egypt to maintain high-level exchanges, increase friendly cooperation and strengthen coordination in international affairs," Wu said, noting that this would help achieve common development and benefit the two peoples.     Wu also applauded Egypt's long-term and firm support to China on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.     Radwan was here to attend the third meeting under a regular exchange mechanism between the parliaments of China and Egypt.     Hailing the role of the regular exchange mechanism, Wu said it provided the two parliaments with direct, in-depth and effective channels to communicate with each other, and had become an important platform for parliamentary exchanges.     Under the active promotion of the leaders from both nations, the two parliaments set up the regular exchange mechanism in 2007.     Wu hoped the two parliaments would further improve the mechanism.     Echoing Wu, Radwan said the Egyptian People's Assembly would make use of the mechanism construction to advance the level of parliamentary cooperation between the two sides.     As to Egypt-China ties, Radwan said the two countries in recent years had witnessed frequent high-level visits and fruitful cooperation in investment, tourism, economy and trade.     Egypt valued the relations with China, and would work with the country to enhance exchanges and cooperation in various sectors.     Radwan is visiting China from Dec. 4 to 10 at the invitation of the NPC Standing Committee.

BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese central authorities have stressed the promotion of honesty and uprightness among the public, especially government officials, in enhancing clean governance and anti-corruption drive.     It is imperative to foster and carry forward the merit of honesty and uprightness, and officials should have the awareness of using power justly and pursue clean-fingered work style, according to suggestions on clean governance put forward by six central government departments.     The six departments also urged to strengthen education on the public about the value of honesty and cleanness combining social morality, professional ethics, family virtues and personal moral character.     It is stressed that anti-corruption should be a subject that is reflected in literature works, films and TV dramas, as well as newspapers and magazines, books, and electronic products.     The suggestions were jointly issued by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Ministry of Supervision, Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Culture, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and the General Administration of Press and Publication.

ROME, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Monday proposed a four-point action plan aimed at eradicating world hunger in his address to a world summit on food security.     Stressing the fact that the financial crisis has worsened the plight of the poor and the hungry, the Chinese vice premier said the summit, hosted at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters here, was "of special significance to world food security, global economic recovery and sustainable development."     In order to overcome the "dual pressure of an international financial crisis and a global food crisis," the first suggestion of the Chinese government was to increase input and raise food production by investing more in agriculture, build up the capability to resist natural disasters and strive for greater self-sufficiency. During the three-day event more than 60 heads of state and government will gather to discuss measures to eradicate hunger and ensure food security.

TAIPEI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Kuomintang (KMT) honorary chairman Wu Poh-hsiung Monday said the peaceful cross-Straits development was the "right path", while meeting here with Liang Baohua, secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     "Practice is sole criterion for testing truth. The development of cross-Straits ties over the past year has made me strongly feel that it is the right path to seek peaceful development," Wu said. BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Profits of China's state-owned enterprises (SOEs) administered by the central government more than doubled in October from a year ago after months of declines, a senior official said here on Friday.     The 132 central SOEs reaped a profit of 79.5 billion yuan (11.64 billion U.S. dollars) in October, up 151 percent year on year, said Huang Shuhe, deputy director of the State-owed Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) at the 2009 Annual CEO Forum.     In October, revenues surged by 22 percent from a year ago to nearly 1.16 trillion yuan, Huang said.     Their profits during Jan-Oct was 633.8 billion yuan, while revenues amounted to 9.83 trillion yuan during the same period.     Huang also noted 24 central SOEs had entered the rank of Fortune 500 companies.     "China's companies still face difficulties and great challenges due to roaring raw material prices, huge environmental pressure and rampant protectionism triggered by the financial crisis," he said.     He said the companies should further enhance independent innovation, improve corporate governance and accelerate the pace of "go global" to compete with foreign brands.
