President Donald Trump signed the .3 trillion spending bill to keep the federal government open Friday, then excoriated Congress for passing the plan in the first place.Earlier Friday, the President threatened to veto the measure over concerns it does not include a solution for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program or sufficient funding for a border wall."I am considering a VETO of the Omnibus Spending Bill based on the fact that the 800,000 plus DACA recipients have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded," Trump tweeted just before 9 a.m. on Friday. The missive sent White House officials and Republican leaders on Capitol Hill scurrying to ensure that Trump would still sign the omnibus spending bill, which top White House officials promised just a day earlier Trump would sign. The massive spending package marks the end of a months-long funding stalemate in which lawmakers were forced to pass one short-term spending bill after another to stave off a shutdown. The package includes more than just money to fight the opioid epidemic, pay the military and fund more than billion in infrastructure projects. It also includes policy changes like one that would incentivize states to enter more records into the country's gun background check system and another that would cut off aid to the Palestinian Authority until Palestinians cease making payments to the families of terrorists.Spotted in the West Wing on Friday by CNN shortly after Trump's tweet, Marc Short, the White House legislative affairs director, struck an assured tone when asked if the government would shut down over Trump's veto threat."I think we'll be OK," he said.  1814

President Trump spoke to reporters Wednesday following Tuesday's Midterm Elections.Trump's began with prepared remarks speaking about Republicans wins in the Senate, calling his party's performance "historic."President Trump also made a point to call out Republicans who did not embrace his agenda and lost races, including Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah) who is currently losing to Democrat Ben McAdams."Mia Love gave me no love. And she lost. Sorry, Mia," Trump said.President Trump also indicated he may make a change in his cabinet regarding Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke. Zinke has been plagued by a number of scandals since he took office."We'll take a look," Trump said.Trump was later asked if his Chief of Staff, Gen. John Kelly, would be leaving the administration."People leave," Trump said, while later indicating he hadn't heard of reports that Kelly would be leaving. Trump later claimed people were "lining up" to work in the White House.Trump's presser follows a mixed midterm election, which saw his Republican party pick up additional seats in the Senate, but lose control of the House of Representatives.Though Trump often speaks to pool reporters on the White House lawn and on the oval office, Wednesday's presser was just his third press conference since he took office in January 2017. His last presser took place in September as the Senate Judiciary Committee prepared to interview his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, in the wake of sexual abuse allegations.Trump's first press conference came just weeks after his inauguration in February of 2017.Watch the press conference in the player above.    1672

RANCHO PENASQUITOS -- A group of residents in Rancho Pe?asquitos is sounding the alarm about a trio of dense developments that could add 1,500 housing units within 1.5 miles of each other. The group, called PQ-NE Action, notes the northwest part of Rancho Pe?asquitos only has one road in and out. They are raising concerns that the road could not handle the influx in the case of an emergency, such as a wildfire evacuation. "We fully understand things are going to change, but not change to a point where the neighborhood becomes threatened from a safety standpoint," said Junaid Razvi, a 40-year resident and spokesman for the group. RELATED: San Diego's top neighborhoods to get more rental space for the moneyCurrently, Lennar is building the 600-unit Pacific Village complex just east of Carmel Mountain Road. Two more could be on the site of the Hotel Karlan, which shut down Dec. 31. The hotel portion of the property could be rebuilt into as many as 370 homes. The Encinitas-area development company that owns it did not respond to requests for comment. Meanwhile, Lennar is proposing to build more than 530 new housing units on the hotel's old golf course.PQ-NE Action is now calling on Councilman Mark Kersey to step in. "They are moving fast on this, and so we would like to see a pause," Razvi said. RELATED: Making it in San Diego: Changing market could mean opportunity for entry-level San Diego homesIn a statement, Kersey said he understands the concerns and hopes the property owners will work with the community to address them.A spokeswoman for Lennar says the company will do exactly that as part of the approval permitting process. 1661

Republican Rep. Diane Black of Tennessee recently cited pornography as a contributing factor to gun violence in schools."How many of you when you were in school ever had an experience where a kid came to school with a gun?... Never happened. So we say, 'Why?' ... Why do we see kids being so violent? What's out there? What makes them do that?" Black said during a listening session with local pastors last week, according to audio HuffPost obtained and posted Tuesday.Black, who is also running for governor in her state, went on to list "deterioration of family," violent movies and pornography as what's led to school shootings."It's available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store. Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there's pornography there," Black says in the audio. "All of this is available without parental guidance."She adds, "And I think that's a big part of the root cause, that we see so many young people that have mental illness get caught in these places."In the audio, Black does not detail what it is about pornography that she believes contributes to school shootings."I think the context is pretty clear," Black's campaign spokesman Chris Hartline told CNN Tuesday. "Diane believes the breakdown of families and communities plays a significant role in instances of school violence."Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts criticized Black's comments, writing on?Twitter?that "despite all of the data and experts at her disposal, (Black) chooses to blame 'grocery store pornography' for school shootings. And she doesn't mean the magazines that glorify guns." 1615

Rashida Tlaib will likely be the first Muslim woman elected to Congress after CNN has projected her to win the Democratic primary in Michigan's 13th District.Tlaib, who beat a crowded field of Democrats to win Tuesday's primary, will not face a Republican opponent in November's general election. She can still be opposed by a write-in candidate, but would be the overwhelming favorite in the deeply Democratic district."The winner of tonight's primary will win the election," Andy Goddeeris, Tlaib's campaign manager, said on Tuesday. "No doubt about it."Tlaib, the eldest daughter of Palestinian immigrants, was one of more than 90 American Muslims running for office this year. In 2008, she was the first Muslim woman ever to serve in Michigan's state legislature. The congressional seat had been held by former Rep. John Conyers before he resigned in December amid allegations of sexual harassment.Tlaib is also running against Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones in a primary for the special election in the district, and the winner will serve from November until the beginning of the next Congress. CNN has not yet called the results for that race. The general election primary Tlaib won is for the full two-year term that begins next January. 1264
