A wave of construction will bring thousands of new apartments to downtown in the next few years. As those complexes start to open, they could bring relief to San Diego's housing crisis.This July, Park 12 will be the biggest to open, adding 718 units to the downtown area. The complex features three buildings, including a 37 story tower. Jerry Brand, with developer Greystar, says they wanted to go big in downtown because they see the area going through tremendous growth."Last year, San Diego had the largest employment growth in CA as a city. It was about 30,000 jobs, and that doesn't include the military," Brand says. "That creates housing demand, so we're seeing continued demand in the future."Other developers agree. According to Civic San Diego's 2017 Downtown Development Report, there were 1,014 new apartments completed in downtown in 2017. That's the third most since 2001. The report shows another 10,561 apartments either under construction, waiting to be built, or waiting for approval.Little Italy is one of the fastest growing areas. Projects like Luma, AV 8, Amo and Vici will add nearly 600 apartments to the area by the start of 2019."This is the most dynamic neighborhood in San Diego," says Rich Gustafson, the President of CityMark Development. They're putting the finishing touches on AV8, which will have 133 units."The demand is there," he says. "San Diego, in general, is slow in providing the housing supply, but we're doing the best that we can in Little Italy."It's not just apartments. Across Downtown, Civic San Diego says there are 1,213 condominiums either under construction or in the planning stages. Akron, Ohio police are investigating after three women were found dead inside a home on Saturday night.It happened around 7:40 p.m. while officers were conducting a welfare check at a house in Akron. According to department, the officers first tried knocking on the door and when no one answered, they began looking through the windows and saw a woman on the floor. They then forced entry inside and discovered two other women.All three women were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS of suspected drug overdoses.Police aren't releasing their names at this time, but say they were 20, 20 and 21-years-old.  623

Adidas has voluntarily recalled kids’ swimwear products of the Infinitex 3-Stripe range due to the stripes coming off and them possibly leading to injuries.According to the company, they have received customer reports that the three stripes on the swimwear might come off unexpectedly when in contact with water, which pose a potential safety risk to children as the stripes might get caught on objects or other children outside or inside the water and become entangled, potentially leading to injuries. No injuries have been reported to date. The swimwear, worn by children up to and including the age of 14, were sold as part of the 2017 and 2018 collections in both, youth and adult sizes through adidas.com, Adidas retail stores and at authorized Adidas dealers globally. The affected swimwear products come in several color combinations, has the Adidas 3-stripes trademark grafted on both sides of the swimwear and has the words 'made in Tunisia' on the label. ABSARD, Iran (AP) — State television says an Iranian scientist was killed in a targeted attack killed in Absard, a small city just east of the capital, Tehran. State TV says the attack on the scientist, named Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, saw gunmen use explosives and machine gun fire. He was attacked by "armed terrorist elements," according to state TV, and died at a local hospital after first responders couldn't revive him.Israel has alleged the man led the Islamic Republic’s military nuclear program until its disbanding in the early 2000s.Iran’s foreign minister is alleging the killing of Fakhrizadeh has “serious indications” of an Israeli role. A group is holding press conferences across the state of New York, urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo to allow immigrant food and farm workers to apply for a driver's license — even if the worker is undocumented."Green Light NY: Driving Together" argues that New York's agriculture and food industry needs migrant workers because Americans are not interested in taking the jobs, and driver's licenses would reduce costs for farmers."Farmers are worried about losing their workers. And it is already happening," Jennifer Connor, an organizer for "Justice for Migrant Families," said.Green Light NY wants New York to join 12 other states that issue driver's licenses without regard to immigration status. Supporters of the idea it will help farmers, who are currently responsible for cost and logistics of transporting their migrant workers to the farm, grocery store or doctor's offices.Proponents of the plan say allowing undocumented immigrants to apply for driver's licenses will generate million for the state's economy"Would it be better to have them licensed, documented, required to purchase insurance and all those things? Absolutely," Dennis Brawdy of the Amos Zittel & Sons Farm in Eden, New York, said.While local farmers support the idea, it is controversial.Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns is strongly against the idea."We have to remember that we are a border state with Canada, and terrorism is a very important issue," Kearns said.According to Kearns, federal requirements for identification have greatly increased and allowing undocumented farm workers to get a driver's license would create a dangerous loophole."I believe federal law supersedes state law and I will follow the federal law," added Kearns, who said he would challenge any change in New York law regarding the issuance of licenses to workers without proper documentation. 1920
