Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks at a CMC meeting on military training.

To contain the virus and restore the economy, China's central leadership took resolute actions to stamp out the spread of the virus and introduced policies to stimulate growth; businesses employed adaptive tactics to survive the crisis; and the public united to observe health protocols. These actions were all indispensable to the country's hard-won gains.

"President Xi's remarks are extremely pertinent and straight, and forward-looking," said B.R. Deepak, chairperson at the Center of Chinese and Southeast Asian Studies at the New Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Xi said the development of the manned submersible and its sea trials indicated China's capability of carrying out scientific exploration and research in the deepest parts of the world's oceans as well as its comprehensive strength in marine high technology.
