Cyber Monday just wrapped up and there is a good chance you are expecting a package to be left on your doorstep in the coming days and weeks. While online shopping can be convenient, that convenience is lost when a porch pirate decides to steal. Despite technology making it easier to monitor packages, porch pirates are still busy grabbing packages despite the risk of being seen on camera. Ring.com offered its customers 10 tips for eliminating porch pirates:1 Track Your Packages and Use Delivery AlertsWhen available, track your packages online or sign up for delivery alerts to know when they’re scheduled to arrive so you can make sure someone is home to receive them.If you order from multiple sites, keep a list of all your tracking numbers so you don’t have to look through countless shipping confirmation emails when you want to track your orders.#2 Choose Packaging That Conceals What’s in the Box, if AvailableIf you’re shopping on Amazon, certain purchases qualify for basic packaging that doesn’t give away the contents of the shipment. When you’re checking out, choose the option to “ship in Amazon packaging,” which doesn’t cost extra. #3 Get a Video DoorbellSmart devices, like the Ring Video Doorbell, let you answer your door and protect your packages no matter where you are. The Ring app alerts you when the doorbell’s sensors detect motion, like packages being delivered or when someone presses the call button. And, with two-way talk, you can chat with the delivery person and ask them to place your packages in a more hidden area.Even after your shipment is successfully delivered, the Ring Video Doorbell helps make sure it stays there until someone gets home. Ariel Tessler experienced this firsthand. He was working when he got an alert on his phone that there was motion at his front porch, and he was able to see that two people were trying to open his package. Using the two-way talk feature on his doorbell, Ariel directed them to stop and leave the package right where it was.#4 Add Delivery InstructionsWhen ordering packages online, if possible, add delivery instructions that let the driver know to place the package in a safer spot that’s out of view. If that area is on the side or in the back of your house, make sure to add a Ring outdoor security camera so you’re able to check on the package until you can collect it.#5 Get to Know Your Delivery PersonNot all security is high-tech. When it comes to making your neighborhood safer, it helps to get to know your local delivery people, who can be extra vigilant when delivering your packages if they think something seems off at your home. And while you’re at it, take a few moments to extend your gratitude for all their hard work, especially during the holidays. With all of the shopping, they’re busier than ever making sure your packages arrive safe and secure. Show them a token of your appreciation when they make a delivery, just like MariaElena Fonseca did in California last year.#6 Don’t Let Your Packages Sit for Too LongWith so much going on during the holidays, it’s sometimes easy to get caught up and let your packages pile up at the front door and attract unnecessary attention. Don’t procrastinate and let them sit for too long. Bring them in as soon as you can, because you never know who might try to snag one of the boxes before you can bring them inside.#7 Work With Your Neighbors to Make Your Community SaferDuring the year, and especially around the holidays, take the time to connect with your neighbors. Let them know when you’re planning to be out of town and when visitors are coming, so they’ll be more aware of any unusual activity.Make sure to also download the 3693

DENVER, Colo. – As the COVID-19 pandemic shuts down several businesses, others are cashing in. The coronavirus crisis is causing pot sales to surge. “It’s never a dull moment around here now; it’s been crazy,” said a budtender at Euflora Recreational Marijuana Dispensary in metro Denver.Euflora has seen an 85% increase in sales since a stay-at-home order went into effect. “We have never seen anything like this,” said Ashley Chubin, Euflora national brand director.Chubin says her company’s dispensaries in California and Colorado are now only offering curbside pot pick-up.It’s an adjustment of day-to-day operations to make sure both workers and customers stay safe during this worldwide crisis.“We are trying to do our very, very best as far as what the state and government is saying,” she said. “Everybody has gloves. We’re standing six feet away.”As more people practice social distancing, Euflora leaders say they now have more of a social responsibility.“We need to stay healthy and safe and happy,” said store manager Pam Pacheco. “So, if we can continue to purchase safely, let’s do it.”Pacheco says customers are stocking up on everything from edibles to flower and that the curbside pickup is helping people get their pot – and peace of mind. “I think the nerves have calmed down,” she said. “I think this is catering to them. Everybody feels good and we’re still able to give them product.”To get pot products, customers order online, drive to a dispensary where they’re greeted by a budtender who checks their identifications, takes their cash and brings back a bag filled with items containing THC or CBD.They’re products that some say help improve their quality of life.“I have Parkinson syndrome and I tremble a lot,” said one customer. “It helps to calm me down.” One couple was visiting Colorado from Illinois where weed was recently legalized. “The lines back at home are basically around the block and they don’t ever have what you want,” they said.Right now, recreational marijuana is legal in 11 states and legal for medical use in 33 states. Some states have deemed marijuana dispensaries essential businesses, which allows them to stay open and offer customers cannabis. However, there are some worries about people stocking up on weed and isolating themselves from society.“I would say it’s a huge concern by the states making it one of the essential needs,” said Tricia Hudson-Matthew, Ph.D., an addiction specialist at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She believes panic buying pot can lead to all kinds of emotional issues.“People are scared they don’t know what to do and they’re self-medicating and when that doesn’t work or we need a stronger dosage then we start to panic,” Hudson-Matthew said. She says those using pot recreationally should strongly consider facing their fears of this pandemic sober. “Our body would naturally release some of the endorphins that we need as we sit in that place and start to process,” she said. “So, we don’t need to self-medicate.”Dispensaries like Euflora say they’ll continue cannabis curbside pickup as long as the law allows. Helping customers get weed safely while slowing down the spread of coronavirus. 3200

Deputies in Laurel County, Kentucky, arrested two women Thursday after a newborn was found on the floor of their minivan following a traffic stop. According to their arrest citations, Charolette Simpson, 69, and Rebecca Fultz, 32, both had warrants for their arrest. A deputy pulled the minivan over for traffic violations. Simpson drove for a quarter of a mile before stopping. When deputies finally got Simpson to pull over, they say Rebecca Fultz began struggling against officers. Officers say that it was 10 minutes before anyone told them that there was an infant inside the car.The child was discovered in the floor on a blanket. The car had no working air condition, and temperatures were in the 90s. The newborn was covered in insects and was wearing a soiled diaper. The infant was taken to the hospital. Inside the van were clothes with human feces on them and bag of garbage. Fultz and Simpson are both charged with criminal abuse. Fultz also received charges of menacing and resisting arrest. 1016

Democratic Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on Wednesday announced he is suspending his presidential campaign.Inslee made the announcement during an interview on MSNBC.The Washingtonian made combating climate change the fundamental issue motivating his campaign, routinely telling reporters that the climate crisis affects "every issue" facing the country. With that in mind, he released a series of plans that tied the issue to everything from foreign policy to the economy to labor laws. But the governor failed to gain traction in the race to take on President Donald Trump. While the governor did recently reach the donor threshold to qualify for the third Democratic national debate, he had yet to reach the polling threshold and was therefore unlikely to qualify.Inslee was on the trail until the final days of his campaign. The governor released his sixth climate change policy proposal on Wednesday, a plan that tied combating the issue to agricultural policy.Inslee was scheduled to be in New Hampshire on Thursday for a presidential candidate forum at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics.Inslee did qualify for the first two Democratic debates, turning in performances in which he looked to steer the conversation towards combating climate change as often as possible. Inslee also publicly called for the Democratic National Committee to host a debate entirely focused on climate change, knocking the committee for rebuffing his demands."Climate change is not a singular issue, it is all the issues that we Democrats care about," he said at the second set of Democratic debates. "It is health. It is national security. It is our economy."The governor will now return to Washington state, where he is in his second term. Inslee won reelection in 2016 by nearly 10 percentage points and is eligible to run for reelection in 2020. He said during his interview on MSNBC that he will make an announcement on Thursday about his plans. While Inslee made climate change a singular focus, he was not alone in talking about the issue on the campaign trail.Democratic candidates are often asked about the climate crisis, a signal that the issue is top of mind for active Democratic voters. And a CNN poll earlier this year found that 82% of Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents find climate change a "very important" issue, ranking it at the top of the list ahead of universal health care, tighter gun laws and impeaching Trump. 2443
