POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Family and friends are mourning the tragic death of a man in Poway this weekend. Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Walker died after a stray bullet hit him in the stomach as he slept early Saturday. It happened at the Sofi Apartment complex on Midland Road. Christina Walker said her husband was sleeping in the spare bedroom so his snoring wouldn't wake her. "All of a sudden, I heard this loud thud, and I didn't know what it was, I ran out of bed, I thought he fell and he was just standing there and I don't think he even knew what was happening, but he was just laying there in bed and got shot," said Walker. She said they didn't realize what had happened. "I'm looking and I'm just seeing this hole in his stomach and then I look over and there's a hole in my wall," said Walker. She rushed him to the hospital, but he died around 3 a.m Saturday ."I think we were still just disbelief, really not knowing, you just don't think, we don't have a gun, it's not like either one of us has ever been shot before, you just don't think, why would you think you have a bullet in you?" said Walker. "Until I heard that they got the person, I couldn't even cry until then, not really, and then I just lost it," said Walker.The Walkers were married less than three years. Christina describes her husband a kind and gentle man. "When I say and stress just how amazing he was, he didn't even know how amazing he was, he was always there when somebody needed him, he was very compassionate, he was an incredible human, he just poured out love for me, and I just hope that I was able to give that to him," said Walker.Her husband worked at Jeromes. (KGTV) - The Poway Unified School District Board of the Education unanimously passed an anti-racism resolution at their virtual meeting Thursday.“In this resolution, the Poway Unified School District makes a commitment to really looking at diverse curriculum, and representing diverse points of view, as well as committing to hiring diverse staff,” PUSD Chief Communications Officer Christine Paik said.“(The district) will also look at anti-racist and anti-bias training. POWAY (CNS) - A pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle in the 15500 block of state Route 67 in an unincorporated area near Poway on Sunday was identified by the Medical Examiner as 35-year-old Ryan Moon Golden.The incident occurred about 11 p.m. near Cloudy Moon Drive.Witnesses said Golden was walking in the middle lanes of northbound state Route 67 when he was struck by a Buick sedan.RELATED: Person hit by vehicle, killed on SR-67 in Poway areaThe impact launched Golden onto the southbound lanes of the freeway, where he was struck by at least four other vehicles and dragged around 50 yards.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said Golden died of blunt-force injuries at the scene of the accident. 726

(KGTV) -- Some North County students of color are sharing their experiences of racism anonymously in an Instagram page called "Black in PUSD."The social media account is described as "a safe space for current and graduated students in Poway Unified School District to anonymously share their experiences with racism.""We were originally inspired to start this during the Black Lives Matter movement, we thought it was a good idea to showcase the black experience in our community," said one of the page creators. The creators want to remain anonymous so they aren't targeted, but they shared with ABC 10News their encounters with racism."A girl once told me her father interrogated her after seeing us walking together, and he asked her who I was, why she was speaking to me, and if she was safe," one person on the page said.The page has more than 3,600 followers and dozens of posts. But the creators want to do more than bring awareness."In bringing awareness to these issues, we can create a more inclusive environment through better education," the creators said. "And just overall changing up the curriculum, so students understand the history of what people of color had had to face."In addition, they said they wanted to see more diversity in the staff and faculty.
