SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Kearny Mesa hotel will be used as a new coronavirus quarantine site in San Diego.The Ramada by Wyndham San Diego North Hotel & Conference Center will be utilized as a new quarantine site in San Diego, according to the hotel.Individuals heading to the location have undergone medical screenings and show only mild to no symptoms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos resident is sharing video of what he believes is a large mountain lion running across a busy street in his neighborhood.Mike Johanning was driving home from dinner at 11 p.m. when his dash cam captured the animal.The incident happened on Navajo Road near the Mission Trails Golf Course and Cowles Mountain trailhead.The possible mountain lion was as wide as his car, Johanning told 10News.Johanning has lived or worked in San Carlos since 1997 and said he had never seen a mountain lion in the area.Wildlife Research Institute researcher David Bittner saw Johanning’s video and confirmed it was likely a mountain lion.  Bittner is leading a project that has set up cameras throughout the county looking for mountain lions.  He says a sighting in San Carlos is rare.Bittner says he may be a juvenile striking out on his own hunting for deer. "Usually they go back home after a few days," said Bittner.  966

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A nurse at UC San Diego Health is turning to music when trying to connect with patients during telemedicine visits."I've always listened to music so I started teasing my patients 'hey you owe me a nurses fee' and they'd be like 'what's that?' I'd tell them it's your favorite song, a lot of people responded well and it'd help build a rapport with them." It might sound silly but Joe Bautista, nurse with UCSD for over 6 years, said it helped him build a connection with patients in ways he'd never imagine."I was like what's your favorite song? And she said 'Tennessee Whiskey' and I said why? She said 'I really need a Tennessee Whiskey' right now so that was really funny."His patients are recovering after testing positives for COVID-19. "You're on the phone with them but you also hear their stressors, and their anxiety and you want to provide them comfort," Bautista said. His job is to track and assess their progress along the way. The music part, he said, is an added bonus, "It was for me to find a connection with each of my patients to make sure I could advocate for them the best I could."He said in nursing school when patients were sick and feeling uneased, he would ask about their favorite song and their faces would light up. "They're able to talk to us freely because I'm showing interest in something that's personal to them so they can develop that trust with me." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego gym owner said he is keeping his doors open despite state restrictions on indoor operations that took effect early Wednesday morning.For Shawn Gilbert, the owner of Boulevard Fitness in University Heights, keeping his business open is a matter of survival."I took a huge financial hit in May. Money out of my pocket that's never coming back. We have bills to pay, we have rent to pay,” Gilbert told ABC 10News.Gilbert said he believes his gym can operate safely with face covering and social distancing guidelines because it is a large, open space with high ceilings. The gym also has an outdoor space that Gilbert plans to also utilize.According to Gilbert, none of his gym members or employees have tested positive for coronavirus.Gilbert told ABC 10News he’s prepared for any possible citations for staying open."We have a lawyer with six other gyms, all representing us gym owners. What [Gov. Gavin] Newsom did this time is unlawful. I find it criminal,” said Gilbert.Boulevard Fitness is closed Wednesday for cleaning, but the facility will reopen Thursday at 6 a.m. 1111
