The number of missing in Californian wildfires has soared to 631, as authorities added hundreds of names to the lists of the unaccounted for Thursday, in what has become the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state's history.Butte County Sheriff and Coroner Kory Honea said Thursday evening the death toll from the Camp Fire in northern California had grown to 63 people. Seven sets of remains were discovered Thursday, he said.At least two other people have been killed in another, separate wildfire in Southern California, putting the state's death toll at 65 since the two blazes began last week.On Friday hundreds of rescue personnel -- deputies, National Guard troops and coroners -- dressed in white overalls sifted through smoldering rubble and checked mangled cars, searching for human remains.Honea said the number of names on the missing list soared after investigators added information from callers who rang the dispatch center on the day the fire erupted and reported people who were missing in the chaos.Some of the names on the Butte County list appear more than once and it's not clear if any are duplicates. Officials have said it's hard to determine the number of missing, because some people may have evacuated and can't be reached with cell phone service unreliable due to the fire."There are a lot of people displaced and we're finding a lot of people don't know we are looking for them," Honea said.The fire turned the hard-hit town of Paradise into ash and debris and also devastated the nearby communities of Magalia and Concow. Honea said three sets of remains were found Thursday in Paradise, three in Magalia and one in Concow.Honea has invited relatives of the missing to visit the sheriff's office in Oroville so authorities can collect DNA samples from them. The grandmother of a missing 5-year-old Dickson, Tennessee boy said she has been cooperating with law enforcement after her stepson was arrested for his death.Belle Daniels spoke to Scripps station WTVF in Nashville the night several vigils were being held for her grandson, Joe Clyde Daniels."Right now, we’re feeling that it’s a nightmare, and we’re hoping to get closure soon," said Belle. The boy, who had autism and was nonverbal, was first reported missing by his parents the morning of April 4.Hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement agencies responded to help search for the boy, but on Saturday, the rescue search turned into a recovery effort.Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Dickson County Sheriff's Office said 28-year-old Joseph Daniels confessed to killing his son and hiding his body. “It’s shocking because you raise a child from way back, and you think you know him. You don’t think your child could kill his own baby," said Belle. Belle said she was with her husband in Texas because he is a truck driver. That's when they heard that their grandson disappeared.“When we found out about it, my heart just sunk. We didn’t know what was going on, and when they couldn’t get leads, I thought somebody abducted him," she added. She returned on Friday right before he was arrested for one count of criminal homicide. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the second vaccine to receive the FDA’s emergency use authorization, is on its way to states, according to officials with Operation Warp Speed, the task force overseeing the nationwide vaccine distribution.During a press conference Saturday morning, U.S. General Gustave Perna, COO of Operation Warp Speed, said “distribution of (the) Moderna vaccine has already begun.”Moderna’s vaccine was approved for emergency use on Friday evening. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved for emergency use a week earlier.“Boxes are being packed and loaded today. Trucks will begin rolling out tomorrow, from FedEx and UPS, delivering vaccines and kits to the American people across the United States," Perna said. "This week, in total, between Pfizer and Moderna, we have allocated 7.9 million doses of vaccine."He also took responsibility for discrepancies state leaders reported last week citing reductions in the amount of Pfizer vaccine doses they would be receiving. More than a dozen states said they were told by the federal government that next week's shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine would be 20-to-40% less than originally projected. Perna said they are keeping an eye on manufacturing numbers and adjusting distribution in the short-term. But I am responsible.
