According to San Diego Police, the woman’s body was found Saturday at an unspecified time near a hiking trail in Tecolote Canyon Park. Police believe the woman was in her mid to late 20s. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Murder during rape is a special circumstance, meaning no bail for the man accused of killing an elderly woman in her Normal Heights home in 1987.Kevin Ford, 62, didn’t have much to say in court Tuesday, charged with the murder and rape of 79-year-old Grace Hayden. Some advances in technology and persistent police work helping make today happen after three decades.The video remains just as chilling today as it was 31 years ago. Hayden's body was wheeled out of her home. Her neighbor told 10News reporter Steve Fiorina back then, that she was a friendly neighbor."She was loveable, friendly, never bothered, as far as I know, anyone," the neighbor said."Never went out because she was something like handicapped. She was a nice lady," another neighbor said.The case went cold until a single fingerprint found on Hayden’s stove. And some hard work led investigators to an arrest in North Carolina.San Diego DA investigator Tony Johnson was reviewing the unsolved case when he found that fingerprint. He submitted it to a national database and got a hit from a 20-15 warrant out of North Carolina.Three years ago he talked with KPBS saying, “a case goes cold primarily when the initial team that’s investigating the case has run out of leads.”Ford was extradited to San Diego. Tuesday, he was arraigned before a judge. A public defender said ford denies all charges.Ford is due back in court on Aug. 7. 1460

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - PhaseBio, a company based out of San Diego and Pennsylvania, announced it would be starting a clinical trial for a drug that could help keep severe COVID-19 patients from needing a ventilator. “If you are infected with coronavirus and you’re admitted to hospital, we’re trying to catch those patients before they have a rapid decline and prevent intubation or other more severe complications of the coronavirus,” said Jonathan Mow, CEO of PhaseBio. The drug is called PB1046 and is a “novel, once-weekly, subcutaneously-injected vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) receptor.” It was originally being researched for use on patients with high blood pressure, said Mow. But they pivoted when they realized it might have properties that could help prevent acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a potentially deadly condition caused by the inflammation of the lungs due to the body’s immune response to the coronavirus. “We realized that the characteristics of our drug fit nicely to what we would want to control in the complications in coronavirus patients,” said Mow. The clinical trial will take place at 20 different locations and involve about 210 subjects who have been hospitalized and require oxygen, but have not been intubated. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than 92,000 people have alleged abuse by the Boy Scouts of America. Monday was the filing deadline for people to filing claims against the organization.Team 10 has been reporting on sexual abuse allegations within the Boy Scouts for years. "He'd come at me at multiple times," former scout Mike told Team 10 in 2019. Mike declined to use his last name. Mike said the Assistant Scoutmaster sexual assaulted him during an overnight trip while he was sleeping. Mike's attorney, Andrew Van Arsdale, now represents around 80 former scouts in sexual abuse cases. He said throughout San Diego County, there are roughly 300 sexual abuse cases."What we're seeing is something on a scale we've never seen in any institutional abuse setting," Van Arsdale said. "It's hard. You picture this man you're talking to as a child and this monster on the other side doing these things to them."The Boy Scouts filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year, which means the abuse cases will go through the bankruptcy court. The national organization will work to develop a reorganization plan to fund a trust for compensation. The former scouts alleging abuse will have to approve any future plan. "If they can't come up with real money, the survivors would rather see the cease to exist then because they won't allow them to get away with paying them nothing and then just going on as business as usual," Van Arsdale said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police say they have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting in the Midway District during a meeting set up on social media.San Diego Police arrested 18-year-old Angel Garcia of San Diego on Wednesday and charged him in the murder of Eduardo Salguero, 18, of San Diego, on Nov. 25.Police say Salguero had arranged to purchase an item through Snapchat and met for the transaction behind several businesses in the 3600 block of Midway Dr. When he arrived, two Hispanic males entered his vehicle. During the meeting, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and the transaction turned into an armed robbery.RELATED: Midway District shooting victim killed during Snapchat transaction, police sayMultiple gunshots were fired inside the vehicle before the two suspects fled. Salguero was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries.Both suspects were described the suspects as Hispanic males, between 20-30 years old, who were wearing dark clothing at the time.
