SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego businessman Doug Manchester has suggestions about how to help the people of the Bahamas recover from Hurricane Dorian. “It's devastation. It's beyond all anything that anybody can imagine. The aerial pictures don't do it justice on how much devastation there really is,” Manchester told 10News Thursday. Manchester loaded his plane with supplies and went to work on the island nation with relief organizers. “When this happened, I wanted to go down there as a private citizen to see all I could do to help,” Manchester said. Rebuilding is going to be a long and expensive process but Manchester believes it will happen. “It's going to cost billions, so every little bit helps,” said Manchester. Manchester, who has a long history in the Bahamas, was nominated to be the ambassador by President Trump. The nomination has been on hold for more than a year. “It's political, but hopefully that will see itself through in the next couple months because I can do a lot more as an ambassador than I can as a private citizen." Manchester hopes San Diegans will be generous in their donations to the Bahamas whether it’s through his charitable foundation or another aid group. 1205

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego is giving dockless scooters and bikes preferred parkingThe city is in the process of installing 330 rideshare scooter and bike spaces throughout downtown. The first few of them have been spotted in Cortez Hill. “I think it’s smart,” said Carlos Navarro who work at a restaurant in the Gaslamp “they drive by our store — running into the customers or hit the cars that are parked.” The city says the spaces are being placed at red zones where cars cannot park. “It’s not going to be as crowded or cluttered,” said scooter rider Autumn McFeeley, “the city must really like them.” A class action lawsuit was filed against the city earlier this year claiming San Diego has failed to maintain pathways for people with disabilities. “Allowing there to to be safe storage and parking for those vehicles off the sidewalk is a much better approach, said Colin Parent with Circulate San Diego, “it’ll help minimize those kinds of conflicts” The city of San Diego says more information will be made available about this project in coming days. 1069

Gavin Newsom said during a news conference that the county could be dropped from the list by Tuesday.Sunday, Aug. 16, was the fifth consecutive day San Diego County reported fewer than 100 positive coronavirus tests.State and county officials have said counties would be removed from the monitoring list if rates remain below 100 positive cases per 100,000 people for three straight days.Of the state's 58 counties, 42 remain on that list; five counties were added, with Santa Cruz County falling off Aug. 14."This is a dynamic list. People come on, people come off, the numbers shift every single week," Newsom said Monday.
