SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Former Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher, who was acquitted of murder and attempted murder charges last year stemming from allegations that he fatally stabbed a wounded teenage ISIS fighter and shot Iraqi civilians, is suing the Secretary of the Navy and a New York Times reporter, alleging the reporter defamed Gallagher with the help of Navy officials illegally leaking him documents.The suit accuses the Navy of leaking "about 500 pages of confidential documents from the Navy's criminal investigation" on Gallagher to reporter David Philipps, who extensively covered the allegations against Gallagher prior to and after his trial at Navy Base San Diego last year.The suit also names as a defendant Navy Secretary Kenneth J. Braithwaite, who was sworn in to his post Friday, the same day Gallagher's lawsuit was filed in San Diego federal court.Representatives of the Navy and New York Times could not immediately be reached for comment.Gallagher was acquitted in July of several serious charges related to the alleged slaying of a teenage boy, as well as allegations of firing indiscriminately on civilians from a sniper's nest, which could have had him facing life in prison. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Multiple local and nonprofit organizations around San Diego County will host Christmas meals Tuesday for underserved and low-income residents.Salvation Army San Diego will host its 35th annual Christmas meal, beginning at 11 a.m. at Golden Hall at 202 C St. The organization expects hundreds of volunteers to assist with the event. Volunteers will escort attendees to their seats and serve them a traditional holiday meal.Serving Seniors will also host its annual Christmas meal for low- income and homeless San Diego County seniors, many of whom would otherwise spend the holiday alone. About 350 seniors will enjoy a meal of Cornish hen with Mornay sauce, cornbread dressing, whipped potatoes, green peas and carrot cake, according to the organization. Shane Harris, former president of the National Action Network, will host his second annual community Christmas breakfast at the National Black Contractors Association. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Gusty Santa Ana winds will sweep through San Diego County Monday amid dry conditions, raising the risk of wildfires in the mountains and the inland valleys, according to the National Weather Service.The agency issued a wind advisory that will be in effect until 5 p.m. Monday in the coastal areas and the western valleys.Winds out of the northeast are expected to be between 25-35 mph, with sustained wind gusts potentially reaching 55 mph, forecasters said. Humidity will drop to around 5-10% Monday afternoon with poor overnight recovery.This combination will create an elevated risk of wildfires in the mountains and the western valleys through Tuesday, according to the NWS. Outdoor burning is not recommended.To reduce the risk of wildfire in some parts of North County, SDG&E notified approximately 21,480 residents over the weekend that it may have to turn off power Monday and Tuesday.
