(KGTV) — It's only October but stores are already preparing for the Thanksgiving shopping rush.TheBlackFriday.com has prepared, as well, with a list of stores that have announced they will be closed on Thanksgiving on Nov. 28. In recent years, more retailers have elected to close their doors on Thanksgiving, giving employees the chance to relax and families another reason to push the shopping itch off until after the holiday.Plus, a 2018 survey found that only about one-fourth of Americans prefer Thanksgiving openings while nearly half dislike them.Check out the list of stores below:(This list will be updated as more stores make announcements)A.C. (KGTV) -A nonprofit group is stepping up to find a solution following complaints of people living out of their cars across neighborhoods in San Diego. In February, the City of San Diego unanimously voted to repeal a 1983 city ordinance preventing people from living out of their vehicles. The change cleared the way for vehicle dwellers to live on any street within San Diego. A newly-formed resident coalition is documenting what it says are the problems the ordinance created. The information is being sent to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s office. “We have literally witnessed buckets of waste being thrown out of some of these vehicles. I’ve witnessed drug dealing out of some of the motor homes, we’ve seen bike chop shops operating,” Pacific Beach resident Racheal Allen said. RELATED: Group pressures San Diego leaders to reverse vehicle habitation decisionCity councilwoman Jennifer Campbell recently proposed the city-owned South Shores parking lot near SeaWorld as a designated site for people living out of their cars. Some people had already began using the parking lot as a camping site, but some residents expressed discontent with that solution. The issue is a concern well beyond San Diego’s city limits. A nonprofit group, Jewish Family Services, is now working on a proposal that could potentially turn a privately-owned church parking lot in San Marcos into a designated space for these campers. RELATED: More San Diego residents with children are living in cars because of housing crisis, group saysA San Marcos resident said he’s not opposed to the idea, but he would need to know more about the specifics before taking up a stance on the issue. “How is it going to work, how are they going to control who comes and goes, how are they going to manage the security, the safety, and the health, I think first and foremost, and then what are they going to do if it somehow starts negatively impacting the community,” said Ruben Galvan. Jewish Family Services officials said the group is in the exploration phase of the proposal and is reviewing different sites as options. RELATED: Fake citations being left on Ocean Beach RVs, vans where people may live“If they control the situation it could probably work, for both the unfortunate homeless people and the community, I think they just need to monitor it and say, ‘hey, if it’s not working, we’ve got to figure something different,” Galvan said. 2426

(KGTV) — Is Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom avoiding the debate stage? That's the accusation from Republican rival John Cox who says Newsom has agreed to only one debate thus far, despite several opportunities being offered.Newsom tells 10News he has already been part of four debates with Cox but critics point out that was during the primary campaign with other candidates sharing the stage.Newsom tells 10News he prefers meeting with people at town halls where there's more time for interaction with the audience and less grandstanding.RELATED: Gavin Newsom, John Cox to face off in November General Election"Candidly, the last three out of four of our debates, looked like Jerry Springer shows than substantive dialogue," said Newsom. But political analyst Kevin Riggs says its no surprise Newsom is shying away from debates at this point in the race."He's ahead in the polls, he's ahead in the fundraising, at this point his campaign is an exercise in risk management," said Riggs. "His campaign is going to look at this invitation and say, 'What's in it for us?' and the answer is, not much."Riggs says every time Newsom puts himself side by side with Cox, he raises his opponent's profile and gives him a chance to gain ground."Cox needs the exposure," said Riggs, "He needs to be on the same stage with Gavin Newsom."Which is why, says Riggs, the Cox campaign has agreed to multiple debate offers, while Newsom has so far declined or not responded to all but the one offer from CNN.So what can Cox do about it?  Riggs says, "If you're John Cox you try and shame your opponent and try and talk about the fact you are ignoring voters, you're snubbing voters." The Cox campaign did release a statement this week, accusing Newsom of just that, saying he doesn't want to talk about the issues Californians care about. The two are set to meet for the first — perhaps only — one-on-one debate Oct. 1 on CNN. 1967

A bipartisan group of mayors urged congressional leaders on Friday to provide funding for local and municipal governments that have struggled amid the coronavirus pandemic. The letters was signed on behalf of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The letter was co-signed by Democratic mayors Greg Fischer of Louisville, Kentucky, and Nan Whaley of Dayton, Ohio, and Republican Mayor Francis Suarez of Miami.“We strongly encourage Republicans and Democrats to come to an agreement on a COVID-19 relief package that will contain the onslaught of the pandemic and promote our economic recovery,” the letter read in part. “We implore our leaders: Do not give up. Do not accept failure. Come together to meet the needs of our citizens and enable a safe economic recovery."As a direct result of the pandemic, our budgets have been hit hard and revenue shortfalls threaten our ability to meet essential needs. Jobs have been lost and critical services are being cut.”In the spring, the House passed a bill that included nearly trillion in funding for states and local governments, as many states and towns prepared to make massive and unprecedented cuts to local services such as police, fire and schools. Trump has in the past expressed opposition to bailing out state and local governments on the verge of financial ruin due to a lack of tax revenue.House Democrats, Senate Republicans and the White House have remained far apart on a broader stimulus package. Democrats have made funding of local governments a top priority for a spending bill while Republicans say they want a more focused stimulus package. 1608
