SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Over the last year, thousands of San Diegans received incorrect water bills, but as the city recently discovered, thousands of customers received no bills at all.Officials said at a news conference Thursday afternoon that as many as 2,500 customers may have been affected over the last three to six months. In a press release sent to 10News Thursday, the city blamed a backlog of work orders and additional training for staff on a gap between meters and the public utilities department billing system.RELATED: Audit shows City sent thousands of faulty water bills? The city says meters were still collecting usage data, but the information wasn't being generated into a bill.Earlier this year, Mayor Kevin Faulconer asked the department to re-read every meter in the city. After the project was complete, workers found 10,000 meters broken, damaged or in need of replacement. The city is working to notify customers of the amounts they may owe and says that no water service will be affected. The city also promised that payment plans will be made available for customers. The issue comes on the heels of another problem with the department. Over the last year, the audit found that thousands of San Diegans received incorrect bills. RELATED: San Diego man furious with city over ,000 water billThe issue was largely due to human error, the audit found. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One of San Diego's biggest events of the year is here! Well, sort of. This year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, Comic-Con is not at the San Diego Convention Center. It is only happening virtually. Because of that, San Diego's hospitality industry is suffering a considerable loss. The 51st Comic-Con International is called Comic-Con @Home. This means, there are no crowds, cos-players, or lines around San Diego's Gaslamp District. The good part is that all panels are free for attendees. The bad part?"We're losing 100% of the Comic-Con business," Daniel Drane, owner of The Field Irish Pub, said. For the last 22 years, Drayne has operated the establishment on 5th Avenue, a street usually packed with visitors during the pop entertainment convention. He says every year, regulars from around the world have drinks and hold meet-ups at his bar. Not this year."We're not just losing business, but there's a loss of some of the people that we've actually known for years," Drayne said.Comic-Con's COVID-shutdown does not just impact Downtown San Diego. Its effects trickle down to the rest of the city and the county. In one week, 'the Con' usually drives in 0 million to the region and fills up almost all of the county's 64,000 hotel rooms. But now those numbers are a thing of the past."Our current strategy is a strategy of survival," Robert Rauch, CEO of RAR Hospitality, said. The hotelier says San Diego County's annual average hotel occupancy is 77%. July is singlehandedly the best month of the year, at 90%. But with COVID-19 this year, it is barely at 40%."It's deplorable to go from the best month of the year, to if it weren't for the PPP loans, we'd all be losing money this month," Rauch said. With cancellations, no business, or group travel, Rauch says San Diego's lodging industry is solely surviving on stay-cationers and a handful of leisure travelers. But as the Fighting Irish say,"You can't throw in the towel. You gotta fight back," Drayne said.Drayne is continuing his sidewalk cafe and curbside dining to make it through the dismal numbers."I hope that this COVID goes away and never returns," Drayne chuckled. "Things are going well before all of this, and I'd like to get back there again." 2247

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than one million of the 1.95 million mail-in ballots sent to San Diego registered voters have been returned, according to the county. The County Registrar of Voters said Friday they've received more than a million mail-in ballots back with four days left until Election Day.The Registrar said at the same time before the 2016 Presidential election, the county had only received 442,802 ballots back.Saturday, the county opened polling locations from Saturday, Oct. 31 through Monday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All locations will be open again on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.Residents can locate their polling place online here. Voters can also check the back of their sample ballots and voter information pamphlets for assigned polling places.Anyone casting their ballot in person will be required to wear a face covering and to maintain physical distance at polling locations.Poll workers will have a face mask for anyone who forgets to bring on. Those unable or unwilling to wear a mask will be assisted outside to vote. The Registrar also reminds voters that campaigning or electioneering, which includes the visible display or audibly advocating for a candidate or measure, within 100 feet of a polling place or mail ballot drop-off location is prohibited. 1294
