Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters of California was the intended recipient of a suspicious package intercepted at a congressional mail sorting facility outside Washington, according to two sources.Later on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Explosives, Ginger Colbrun, said a second package addressed to Waters had been found at a postal facility in south central Los Angeles. Colbrun told CNN the package matches the description of those sent to CNN and Democratic political figures. The Los Angeles Police Department said the postal facility was evacuated while an investigation takes place.The packages addressed to Waters, a liberal firebrand and the top Democrat on the House Financial Services committee, had similarities to the other suspicious packages, according to two law enforcement sources. One source said that belief was based on the timing, packaging and devices inside the packages. (CNS) -- Racing is set to resume at Del Mar Friday after three racing dates were canceled because 15 jockeys tested positive for the coronavirus.The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club responded to the positive tests that wiped out racing from July 17-19 by instituting new travel restrictions to include only permitting jockeys based in California to ride and prohibiting all jockeys who leave the track to ride elsewhere from returning to Del Mar for the remainder of the summer racing season.Del Mar also re-configured and expanded its jockeys' quarters, including moving some of the functions that normally take place in the jockeys' room to an adjacent area.Racing will be held Monday to make up for one of the canceled days. The other two lost days will be made up later in the season, on dates to be determined, said Tom Robbins, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club executive vice president for racing.Many of the races that had been scheduled for last weekend have been shifted to this weekend. (KGTV) - SANDAG will start a million project in September, hoping to stabilize Del Mar cliffs that support railroad tracks.Geologist Dr. Pat Abbott says this winter and spring have been rough for bluffs, "in the past few months with a lot of rainfall, we've seen cliff collapses galore in Del Mar."SANDAG says they're going to install pillars and repair drainage structures, "put in steel beams, tie backs, bits of concrete walls, to start to stabilize some of the beach cliffs," Abbott added.The nine-month long project stretches from Seagrove Park to Carmel Valley Road."I think it's a wonderful idea, it's better to do it now, get it behind us, before something happens and a train goes off the side of the cliff," neighbor Lynn Kunkle said.Abbott calls it a Band-Aid, "there's no easy way to get out of this...You have tall sea cliff standing here, ocean waves beating at the bottom, rains soaking into the ground you have trains going by better than 50 a day."Each of those factors eroding the cliff side. Down on the beach lies an example of the fight between amn and mother nature. A concrete drain's side sticks out past the eroded cliff by about two feet. Abbott said the same will happen with this project.A seawall has another negative effect, keeping sand from replenishing the beach below. The Coastal Commission made a compromise with SANDAG when they approved the project. SANDAG will build more beach access for pedestrians.Abbott says we need to think long-term, "let's just do a Band-Aid now like the one proposed here, pass it on to the next generation as if it will be simpler for them to solve than it is for us."SANDAG is planning for the long-term, saying they are still looking into options to move the railroad. And because Georgia uses a runoff system to elect its Senators, some candidates will continue campaigning in the state for a few weeks.In Georgia, Senate candidates need to win 50% of the vote on election day in order to secure their seats. If neither candidate reaches the 50% threshold, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff election in early January.This year, first-term Republican Sen. David Perdue is up for re-election and faces a stiff challenge from Democrat Jon Ossoff, who won a primary election earlier this year. Prior to election day, polls showed a tight race between the two candidates.As of Thursday morning, Perdue currently has just barely 50% of the vote — but the margin is razor-thin and shrinking. As election officials continue to count mail-in ballots, which tend to skew blue, Democrats hope votes for Ossoff and Libertarian candidate Shane Hazel drop Perdue's vote count under the 50% margin to force a runoff.In addition, Georgians this year were also tasked with selecting a replacement for third-term Republican Sen.
