BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- China will foster a number of globally competitive logistics companies by 2011, said a stimulus plan of the country's logistics industry released on the government website on Friday.     All departments and local governments are urged to make efforts to achieve the goal, according to the plan, issued by the State Council, or the cabinet.     It said local authorities should help logistics companies solve problems in their development, realize a 10-percent annual growth in their output and lower the proportion of logistics expenses in the country's GDP.     The cabinet said in a notice that the country's logistics industry was affected by the unfolding global financial crisis. The stimulus plan was designated not only to promote its industrial upgrade but support development of other industries, expand consumption and increase employment.     As a composite service industry, logistics, comprising transport, storage, information industries and freight agencies, is an important part of national economy, said the plan.     The cabinet has rolled out support plans for ten industries including steel, auto and textile, targeting industrial growth, as well as restructuring and upgrading.

BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping urged efforts from the country's Party leaders to improve their political integrity and competence.     Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks Sunday at the opening ceremony of the spring session of the Party School of the Central Committee of CPC.     Xi, also president of the school, said the Party and the people were the keys to coping with the impact of the global financial crisis, maintaining steady and relatively fast economic growth and safeguarding social stability and harmony.     He asked Party leaders to abide by disciplines and identify themselves with the CPC Central Committee both spiritually, politically and in action.     He also urged officials to improve their ability in driving forward the country's scientific development.     He called on leaders to be more innovative, enhance their ability to find talent and pool them together in the causes of the Party and the country.     Officials were also asked to scientifically forecast and take preparatory measures in the face of possible risks.     The officials should improve their ability in safeguarding social stability, and be able to settle disputes and conflicts in a timely and appropriate manner, he said.     The officials should also be able to get along with the media, and to effectively channel public opinions, said Xi.

BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- China and Japan should strengthen cooperation to deal with the financial crisis, said Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday.     "China is willing to work with Japan to properly handle sensitive issues in bilateral relations and consolidate our political foundations," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.     In a meeting with Japanese Defense Minister Hamada Yasukazu, Wu said China-Japan relations were improving and cooperation in various fields have expanded. BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The import and export of electronic and information products in China went down 30.3 percent year on year in the first two months, data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed on Friday.     The combined import and export value was 87.61 billion U.S. dollars through January to February.     In breakdown, export fell 26.1 percent from the same time a year ago to 53.55 billion U.S. dollars. Import was down 36.07 percent to 34.06 billion U.S. dollars.     The import value of LCD panel, a main component in flat-panel television, declined 48.8 percent to 1.82 billion U.S. dollars.     The export value of processing trade with imported material, which comprised more than two thirds of the total export, was down 25.4 percent to 37.86 billion U.S. dollars.     China's export, a driving force of the world's third largest economy, plummeted 25.7 percent year on year in February, the worst decline in more than a decade, as global demand deteriorated amid the deepening recession.

JEJU, ROK, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), unveiled a new Confucius Institute here Saturday soon after his arrival.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, cut the ribbon for the Republic of Korea's 13th Confucius Institute, the Chinese-teaching institution overseas.     The institute was set up in Cheju Halla College, the largest private institute of high learning in Jeju Special-Governing Province of the Republic of Korea (ROK).     When addressing the opening ceremony, Li said that China and ROK were inter-linked geographically and culturally. "The cultural exchanges boast profound historic foundation and favorable realistic environment," he said. "I think the new Confucius Institute can surely add a new human landmark to the beautiful natural vista in Jeju," he said.     Li also donated a batch of Chinese language teaching textbooks, books on Chinese history and culture and some audio-video materials to the institute.     The world's first Confucius Institute was launched in Seoul, capital of the ROK, in December 2004. By March 2009, some 256 Confucius Institutes and 58 Confucius Classrooms were set up in 81countries and regions worldwide.     Li arrived in Jeju earlier Saturday. ROK is the last leg of Li's four-nation tour which has already taken him to Australia, Myanmar and Japan.
