A bipartisan group of senators has failed to reach an agreement on stabilizing Obamacare in 2018.Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander, who chaired a set of health committee hearings with Democratic Sen. (KGTV) — Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced billionaire financier accused of sex trafficking, died by suicide in his Lower Manhattan jail cell overnight Saturday, ABC News reports.Epstein, 66, was discovered dead inside a Manhattan Correctional Center jail cell Saturday at about 6:30 a.m., a statement from the Federal Bureau of Prisons read. Fire officials said they received a call about 10 minutes later that he was in cardiac arrest and transported him to New York Downtown Hospital, ABC reported.ABC News cited several law enforcement officials who say Epstein hanged himself.He had been on suicide watch since July 23 when he was found unresponsive in his cell. Bruises were found on his neck but at the time it was unclear if they were self-inflicted or from an assault, ABC News reported.Epstein was set to stand trial on federal charges for allegedly sexually abusing dozens of minor females at his properties in New York and Florida. Some of those charges date back to the early 2000s.He pleaded not guilty to the charges and faced up to 45 years in prison if convicted.Epstein's arrest in July sparked investigations into how authorities handled with his case when he faced similar charges in Florida more than a decade ago. (KGTV) — Los Angeles police are searching for the person behind the fatal shooting of an off-duty officer early Saturday.An officer was flagged down just before 1 a.m. over reports of a shooting in the area of Avenue 26 at Humboldt St. in the Lincoln Heights area. The officer found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, one of them identified as off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer Juan José Diaz."It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm the off-duty LAPD Officer has passed away as a result of the shooting. A 2,000 foot-long floating pipe nicknamed Wilson is about to start its mission to collect all the plastic in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.Last month, the Ocean Cleanup foundation launched the world's first ocean cleanup system out of San Francisco to take on the notorious "Great Pacific Garbage Patch," a giant floating trash pile between San Francisco and Hawaii that is twice the size of Texas. It's the largest of five ocean trash piles on Earth.The pipe is set to arrive at its destination in the ocean on Tuesday and begin the cleanup process soon after, according to a company spokesperson.The pipe, which is in the shape of a U, features a 3-meter deep net underneath it to trap floating plastic under the water's surface. A boat will return to the spot every couple of months to remove the debris -- like a garbage truck for the ocean -- and return it to shore.
