NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge in New York has ruled that Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf assumed his position unlawfully. U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis's ruling invalidates Wolf’s suspension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shields young people from deportation. Wolf effectively suspended the program in July, a month after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against President Donald Trump's efforts to end it. Garaufis wrote Saturday that DHS failed to follow an order of succession established when then-Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned in April 2019. Nominations for the 61st Grammy Awards were announced Friday and one of the nominees was brought to tears live on television.Singer Janelle Monáe -- along with Alessia Cara and Shawn Mendes -- announced some the nominees on "CBS This Morning." Monáe became emotional when her "Dirty Computer" was announced for album of the year.She said she was moved because the project is "about community," especially the LGBT community of which she is a part."I hope they feel seen," Monáe said. "I hope they feel loved and I hope they feel celebrated."Rap artists Kendrick Lamar and Drake received the most nominations with eight and seven, respectively. Singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile received six nominations.Fans of H.E.R., the singer/musician who wears sunglasses and guards her privacy to keep the focus on her music, had plenty to celebrate with her multiple nominations.She scored nods for best R&B album, album of the year and best new artist.Female artists dominated top categories this year. NEW YORK (AP) — Disney will sprinkle its pixie dust on the streaming arena Tuesday, as its Disney Plus service debuts with an arsenal of marquee franchises including Marvel and Star Wars, original series with a built-in fan base and a cheap price to boot.The -a-month commercial-free service is poised to set the standard for other services like WarnerMedia's HBO Max and NBCUniversal's Peacock to follow, as major media companies behind hit TV shows and movies seek to siphon the subscription revenue now going to Netflix and other streaming giants.Disney's properties speak to its strengths. Besides classic characters such as Snow White and Pinocchio, Disney has Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic — big names that most people would recognize. Disney Plus will also have all 30 past seasons of "The Simpsons." NEW YORK CITY — Terence Davis, an NBA player with the Toronto Raptors, was arrested in Manhattan Tuesday night after allegedly slapping his girlfriend, according to the NYPD.Police said the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Beekman Tower, a luxury high-rise building on Mitchell Place, near East 49th Street and First Avenue.Davis, 23, is accused of slapping the woman across the face before grabbing her phone and breaking the screen, officials said.The victim was not hospitalized.Davis was arrested and will face assault charges, according to the NYPD.This story was originally published by Mark Sundstrom on WPIX in New York. 645

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Legendary television host Regis Philbin has died at the age of 88, People Magazine and ABC News report.According to a family statement obtained by People and ABC, Philbin passed away from natural causes Friday night, one month shy of his 89th birthday.The statement goes on to say that Philbin’s loved ones are forever grateful for the time they got to spend with him, his warmth, his sense of humor and his ability to make every day into something worth talking about.“We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss," the statement ends.For years, Philbin hosted “Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee” before Kathie Lee Gifford left and Kelly Ripa took her place on the nationally-syndicated morning talk show. Ripa and her current co-host Ryan Seacrest posted a tribute to Philbin on Instagram soon after hearing the news of his passing.
