SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An SDG&E outage knocked out power to hundreds of South Bay customers Friday, including a money exchange operator whose backup generator may have contributed to a health crisis.According to SDG&E, about 703 customers in the areas of San Ysidro and Otay Mesa were affected by the outage that began at about 6:40 a.m. Service was supposed to be restored by 10:30 a.m., but that was pushed back to 12 p.m.Two people became ill and were taken to the hospital from a money exchange business using a power generator.According to SDG&E, a substation experienced a technical issue in which a capacitator failed. Crews had to go in a repair the substation before power could be restored. 716

According to the San Diego Farm Bureau, the slowing workforce is expected to impact local farmers and the price we pay at the grocery store. The bureau says the problem stems from an aging work force, the lack of an easy-to-navigate visa program, and the cost of living in San Diego County. There is a visa program available, but for San Diego’s smaller farmers, the process is complicated and expensive. Created in 1986, the H-2A visa was designed to help understaffed farmers hire foreign workers. The problem? The visa program requires farmers to pay its H-2A employees a set minimum wage, .92 per-hour in California. Farmers are also required to provide housing, food and transportation to H-2A workers. California isn’t alone, other states like Idaho are also struggling to find help.According to an Idaho newspaper – The Post Register, a recent migrant shortage and costs associated with the program are forcing some farms out of business. Although times are tough for farmers in San Diego, the bureau says there is a solution – creating a boiled down visa program that simplifies things for farmers and the workers they need. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A warning for all homeowners after what looked like a yard sale turned out to be an elaborate theft. Several men staying in a vacation rental near La Jolla pulled up in a moving truck, stealing everything inside. Surveillance cameras caught men moving things through a Birdrock-area garage and into a truck, but the men aren’t movers. They were reportedly staying in the vacation rental, but according to the homeowner had checked in using fake credentials, fake credit cards and fake IDs. "As soon as I found out I went and told all of my employees, and will definitely spread the word that there is a crew going around doing something like this,” said Tyler Trowbridge, a contractor at Trowbridge Custom Floors.Trowbridge is a contractor working in the neighborhood. He’s had tools stolen while working at home and knows how the homeowner is feeling. "You don't wish it upon anybody, it's their personal belongings and their home was invaded. It's a breach of privacy and an invasion in your world."In this case, it wasn’t small belongings either. The owner says the men cleared the place out, taking everything from furniture and TVs to the stove. "When I talked to the actual owner, it was a lot more intense than I thought."What’s more, the owner says meth was left inside. "The fact that there were drugs in the house too, leads me to believe that it might happen again too."La Jolla Vacation Rentals is the property manager. 10News asked them for an interview, but they wouldn’t do it. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A shopping trip in City Heights ended with a flurry of anti-gay slurs and a road rage assault.On Tuesday afternoon, Marco Aguirre spent an hour shopping, before heading back to his truck, parked in the 3700 block on University Avenue."I back out and lightly bump the car behind me," said Aguirre, 49.Aguirre says he saw two men emerge from an older-model, red sedan. Aguirre apologized, offering to show his insurance, but the men were agitated."The driver came on my side and the passenger came on the other side. Both of them were screaming," said Aguirre.With his cellphone, Aguirre, who is openly gay, capturing the profanities, including a string of anti-gay slurs. Aguirre was frozen. "I feel terrible. Panicked," said Aguirre.He says the slurs continued for about 15 minutes, before he decided to get out of the car to assess the damage."I see no damage to my truck and no damage to their vehicle," said Aguirre. Aguirre says when he stepped onto the sidewalk, he was attacked."One of the guys grabbed my phone and smashed it into the sidewalk. The same guy punched me in the face, under my left eye," said Aguirre. Aguirre says the two men got in the car and took off, leaving him with swelling under his left eye. The incident also left him determined to find the two men."It's not right. I need to take a stand.
