BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- China's top quality supervisor said Monday that Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. has started a recall of 236,643 Focus cars over a problem that caused vehicles to stall.The recall covered vehicles manufactured from August 18, 2008, to May 28 this year by the joint venture owned by Ford, Chongqing-based Changan Automobile and Mazda Motor Corp., the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on its website.The company posted a similar statement on its website Monday, saying the recall came after several customers complained about stalling when the car was moving at low speeds, which was because of the engine software.Both statements said the company would provide the customers with updated engine software free of charge.

GUIYANG, May 14 (Xinhua) -- A toxic gas burst during an illegal coal mining operation has killed 21 people and injured five others in southwest China's Guizhou Province Thursday, officials said Friday.A total of 31 miners were working in a shaft of Yuanyang Colliery when the accident occurred at about 9:40 p.m. in Puding County, Anshun City. CHONGQING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Four miners are missing after a coal mine collapsed in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality Wednesday, local authorities said.Five miners were working underground when the coal bed at the Xiaowan Coal Mine collapsed at around 1 p.m. Wednesday in Zhonggang Town, Wuxi County.One miner was lifted to the ground unhurt.Rescuers are searching for the missing miners.
