SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- On Thursday, January 3, the newest members of Congress will head to Washington D.C. to be sworn in. Among them is Mike Levin, who will represent California's 49th Congressional District. Levin, an environmental attorney, ran a campaign focused on younger voters. During the campaign, he cast his opponent, Diane Harkey as a “rubber stamp" for President Donald Trump. The district was previously represented by Darrell Issa. Juan Varges of the 51st Congressional District will also head to Washington. Varges made headlines recently after pointing the finger at the Trump administration for the situation at the border after hundreds of migrants rushed the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The 51st Congressional District consists of south San Diego County, Imperial County and California’s entire U.S./Mexico border. Also in Washington for the swearing in is Congressman Scott Peters of California’s 52nd District. The district includes the cities of Coronado and Poway as well as most of northern San Diego. Peters was first elected in 2012. In 2018, Peters introduced legislation to provide a tax credit who paid more than 30 percent of their gross income on rent and utilities. Rep. Susan Davis was re-elected in 2018 and represents California’s 53rd Congressional District. The district stretches from I-5 and Balboa Park through Mission Valley to East County and includes much of the heart of San Diego.Davis has been serving the district since 2001 and in 2018, won against her opponent, Morgan Murtaugh. Heading to Washington also is Congressman Duncan Hunter of California’s 50th Congressional District. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police say no one was injured after a vehicle slammed into a downtown San Diego Starbucks Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the crash happened near 10th Avenue and Market Street around 4 p.m. San Diego Police say a semi-truck crashed into a car, causing the vehicle to slam into the building. Police say no one was injured. Photos from the scene show windows of the coffee shop shattered as passersby glanced at the destruction. 465

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver they say struck and killed a pedestrian in Mission Hills Thursday before fleeing the scene.According to police, the 57-year-old man was struck by the vehicle while crossing the street on the 1300 block of West Washington Avenue just after midnight. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Police are searching for a suspect who fled the scene of a deadly shooting near the Linda Vista Recreation Center on Sunday.San Diego Police say that officers were called to the area near 7000 Levant Street in Linda Vista just after 11 a.m. over reports of gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they found one man who had been shot in the upper body. Officer provided first aid to the man until San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified but his identity was not released. He is described as a 27-year-old Hispanic man from San Diego.While officers were at the hospital, a second man arrived with an apparent gunshot wound, police said. He said that he had also been injured outside of the same recreation center. The second victim has also been identified but his name was not released. He is described as a 30-year-old man from San Diego.Police said witnesses reported seeing a man, possibly Hispanic, wearing a mask and shorts, running from the scene. He was seen getting into a small, white four-door vehicle that was last seen driving southbound on Linda Vista Road.Officers said the two victims appeared to have been near the handball courts at the recreation center when they were injured.
