SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Council members will consider two proposals to develop vacant city-owned properties into permanent housing for homeless veterans, seniors, and youth and young adults.The two proposals, conditionally awarded development bids by the city, will also provide on-site supportive services. One proposal by Community Housing Works’ includes building 26 units for chronically homeless youth and young adults on a .336-acre site at the former Serra Mesa Library. That proposal includes on-site case management by YMCA Youth and Family Services. Ideally, the development would open in August 2023.The second proposal by San Diego Community Housing Corporation would turn the 1.42-acre Scripps Ranch Park and Ride site into 60 units for veterans and seniors. San Diego Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly would provide on-site services. That proposal aims to open in January 2024."After a comprehensive review, we determined that both organizations submitted well-qualified and responsive proposals," said Deputy Chief Operating Officer Erik Caldwell. "Now, we will work on presenting both proposals to the City Council, so construction on these vital permanent housing projects can commence as soon as possible."The two proposals are in addition to two recent hotel purchases by the city to help homeless individuals transition into permanent housing. Last year, Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced that eight city properties would be offered up to develop into permanent supportive housing as well.In 2019, San Diego's Community Action Plan on Homelessness identified the need to increase permanent supportive housing by 2,659 units within the next 10 years, with 60% of those units developed within the first four years.A date hasn't been announced as to when the council will consider the two latest proposals. 1841

Everyone is lying," Woolery said in that tweet."The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most, that we are told to trust. I think it's all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Data obtained by ABC 10News showed there were more than 150 complaints made to 211 involving a Pacific Beach gym’s violations of public health orders.The data regarding The Gym was compiled starting April 8; overall, there were more than 9,300 complaints from that time period involving violations of public health orders throughout San Diego County.Troy Kahle said he and his husband have been members of The Gym, located on 2949 Garnet Ave., for more than 20 years. Kahle is also a COVID-19 survivor, and he said he’s not sure how he contracted the virus.Kahle has not been to The Gym since he went to the hospital. His husband last went on July 3, and decided it was not safe.RELATED: County confirms coronavirus outbreak at Pacific Beach gym"There are no safety barriers, there are no hand sanitizers, no one is wearing a mask, and no one is socially distancing," Kahle said, passing along what his husband told him from his July 3 gym visit.On July 15, public health orders forced several businesses to close indoor operations, including gyms. But Kahle said they noticed The Gym kept their doors open.Kahle and his husband notified 211 about The Gym's indoor activities on more than one occasion. He said their goal was to prevent the spread of the virus."I can't believe they stayed open as long as they have," Kahle said.During Wednesday's news conference, San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten confirmed there was an outbreak associated with The Gym.The county had ordered it to close last week; The Gym closed on Monday."Last week, when we were working with them to close, we didn't know there was an outbreak there," Wooten said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Before Vice President Mike Pence made his way to Coronado, he spent the morning at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel.The Vice President and Second lady stayed there during their San Diego Visit. A few protestors inflated the now well-known "Baby Trump" outside of the hotel; It's possible the Vice President got a look at the giant balloon. "We're hoping that the Vice President sees this and sees that there is resistance here in San Diego," says protestor Will Johnson. The giant balloon was an attention grabber for many who saw it on Park Boulevard. "I knew he was coming to town, but I didn't know he was staying here," says Kate Permenter. Permenter is in town for a convention and staying at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel, saying, "So last night people kind of started freaking out."Outside of the hotel, security checked every car making its way into the garage. Hotel guests say there are dozens of police officers and secret service agents inside of the hotel. "At every entrance, there are cops just kind of staring at you."Dozens of officers escorted the motorcade as the Vice President left downtown this morning.
