A high-ranking Transportation Security Administration official says the agency is falling short when it comes to protecting airport screeners and the public from the new coronavirus while at the country's airports, according to published reports. The Officer of Special Counsel, a federal office that handles whistleblower complaints, has ordered an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security. The whistleblower's charges were reported by the Washington Post and National Public Radio. Several publications identify the whistleblower as TSA Federal Security Director Jay Brainard, who is the official in charge of transportation security in Kansas. "You've got communities shutting down. You've got governors shutting things down. And we still hadn't mandated masks. We still hadn't mandated eyewear. We still weren't changing personal protective equipment as often as we needed to," Brainard told NPR. "Every federal security director was forced to fend for him or herself."TSA says it follows guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and that screeners now wear masks and nitrile gloves. But the whistleblower says there are still gaps, including no procedure for handling travelers who appear to be sick.Brainard has been a whistleblower before, most recently in December when he told CNN he was worried about loosened security at airports. 1386

A Florida business owner can continue to fly the flags of the branches of the military after an employee's Facebook live video prompted an ordinance review by city officials.On Monday afternoon, the store manager for Jaguar Power Sports — a motorcycle dealership in Jacksonville — went live on the dealership's Facebook page and claimed a city official with the Regulatory and Compliance Department had cited the business for flying flags of the various branches of the military. The employee claimed that the business was cited for each flag on top of the building."These flags that are flying overhead should not be a problem," said the employee, identifying himself only as Shaun. "... There’s one thing I’m not going to tolerate and that is disrespect for our military in a military town. We should not get cited or ticketed for flying flags representing our country.”The employee also claims the city official who cited the dealership also told a customer in the store at the time — a military veteran — that the customer had done "nothing for our country."Jaguar Power Sports' video has since been shared nearly 250,000 times and received more than 5 million views as of 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday.Regulatory and Compliance Department Chief of Staff Brian Hughes told the Jacksonville Times Union said that Jaguar Power Sports had been issued a warning and had not been fined. A Florida man was allegedly attacked while trying to do the right thing during Hurricane Irma.The alleged victim was letting Tarvice Lamar Payne stay at his home in Port St. Lucie during the storm when his guest attacked him, according to Port St. Lucie police.Payne, 33, of Royal Palm Beach, accused the alleged victim of stealing his drugs, so he punched him and then threatened him with an ax, a police report states. The alleged victim managed to escape and call the police, but not before Payne took the ax and struck a car in the driveway, police said.Arriving officers managed to track Payne down as he was leaving the area.They charged him with aggravated assault, battery, and criminal mischief. 742

A heartbreaking social media post by the brother of James Eric Davis Jr., the man who police say shot his parents to death inside of his Central Michigan University dorm room Friday is asking for compassion and support for his younger brother.“To the media and opinionated people... Please don’t make a villain of my brother... that is NOT who he is... and despite the circumstances, he also lost a mother and father... And I LOVE him. Consider that!,” wrote Russell Matthew Davis on his Facebook page.“Never thought I’d have to post this type of post... but unfortunately the news is true. My mom and dad both rest from their life of labor and stress in a very tragic event,” he wrote.Davis Jr. has been charged with two counts of murder and a weapons charge in the shootings of his father, Eric Davis Sr., and mother, Diva Davis.Davis Jr.’s parents had come to the university Friday to pick up their son from the hospital and take him back to their hometown in Illinois for Spring Break.  Their son had acted so strangely the night before, that University police suspected he was on drugs and admitted him to a hospital in Mt. Pleasant.The shooting occurred on the 4th floor of Davis. Jr.’s dorm room in Campbell Hall as his parents were packing up his belongings.
