Cotton Incorporated responded on Tuesday to a viral Facebook controversy surrounding a Hobby Lobby decoration that angered a customer.The customer shared a photo of a cotton decoration on Sept. 14, 2017 on Facebook, and said it is reminiscent of slavery and those who were forced to pick cotton. She called for the retailer to remove the item from shelves."We were surprised at the initial post because cotton has been sold in craft stores and used as a botanical decoration for decades," a Cotton Incorporated spokesman said in a statement. "Based on the responses to the original post, it does not seem that most people conflate a decorative choice with a regrettable chapter in American history."On Monday, Sept. 18, the "Cotton Stems in Glass Vase" item on Hobby Lobby's website was on sale for , marked down from .99. It is described as a natural decor with hints of the great outdoors, including large fluffs of white cotton finish on each stem. Cotton Incorporated argues that the cotton industry has changed since the days before the Civil War. "The U.S. cotton industry today bears little resemblance to that of the last century or the one before. Colorado's First Gentleman, Marlon Reis, is now in the hospital due to worsening COVID-19 symptoms.Both Reis and Gov. Jared Polis tested positive for COVID-19 last Saturday. At the time, Polis said both of them had only mild symptoms.Over the weekend, Reis started to experience a slightly worsening cough and shortness of breath eight days after being diagnosed with COVID-19, according to the press release from the governor's office.As a precaution, Gov. Polis drove Reis to the hospital in his personal vehicle to be reviewed and treated. Polis says he is not experiencing any additional symptoms at this time.Reis posted on Facebook about the hospital trip, and said it was precautionary and used the message to encourage mask wearing.“Friends,Today, on day eight of my bout with Coronavirus, I experienced a worsening cough and shortness of breath. (KGTV) - A Coronado native is among the 12 people killed in the Thousand Oaks country bar shooting, according to California Lutheran University.Justin Meek, 23, was working as a bouncer at Borderline Bar and Grill when Ian David Long walked in and opened fire. CLEVELAND — Three suspects were arrested after an officer was shot and killed in Cleveland's Stockyard neighborhood Thursday evening.The unidentified suspects was arrested Friday morning.The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the 3200 block of West 65th Street near Storer Avenue, police said.The officer, later identified as Det. James Skernivitz, was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died from his injuries, according to the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association.Police said another person was confirmed dead on the scene but was not a suspect.Skernivitz's identity was held pending the notification of his family, as he is married with children, police said.Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association said Skernivitz has been on the force for "a while," was "well-liked" and was a "good man.""This one hurts," Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association president Jeff Follmer said.Skernivitz was a 25-year veteran of the Cleveland Division of Police, authorities said."We definitely need the prayers of the people in the city.
