SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman was left laying in a gutter with a broken pelvis in Pacific Beach after a vehicle hit her and fled the scene Friday.San Diego Police say the 27-year-old woman was walking in the area of 4300 Ingraham St. at about 11:30 p.m. when a vehicle traveling northbound hit her. The vehicle fled the scene, leaving the woman in a gutter on the street when officers arrived, SDPD said.RELATED: Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run near Brown Field in Otay MesaThe woman was taken to the hospital with a fractured pelvis and multiple abrasions.There was no description of the vehicle, according to police. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Albertsons Companies confirmed Saturday an employee of an Escondido grocery store tested positive for COVID-19.The company said the store will remain open, and "will continue to follow an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process in every department."Public Affairs Director Melissa Hill said that the employee is receiving care and has not worked at the store since March 24. Hill said the Escondido store has been through multiple sanitizing and disinfecting cycles, and used third-party expert service.Hill said the store is monitoring other staff for symptoms."Following CDC guidelines, our Crisis Response Team may recommend that additional members of the store team self-quarantine. These employees will be eligible to receive up to 14 days of quarantine pay," said Hill.The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 President Todd Walters said they have been working with companies to get higher safety measures into the workplaces of members.He said three members of the union tested positive as of Saturday. He said they were all at different locations in San Diego County."We're encouraging and asking the members to 1. Make sure they get their social distance. 2. We want them to get time every 30 minutes to stop, wash their hands and clean their work stations," he said.Walters said Plexiglas has been installed at check out stands to protect workers at Albertsons and Vons, and next week Ralphs and Food For Less will see the same installation.He said employees are tired from the long shifts and urged the public to realize supplies aren't going anywhere. "Please don't shop unless you have to, there's no need to horde. If you see these retail workers, not just grocery, but our drug store members, or other retail entities, give them space. If they're trying to work and you need something, call out to them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Midwife is living her dream of opening her own birth center, helping minority women.We met Nikki Helms in July when her GoFundMe was off the charts, raising more than 1,000.She had been a licensed midwife for about a year and wanted to open a birth center. Fast forward to December and her dream is coming true."We've got signage and I stood at the foot of my stairs and cried about that," Helms said filled with gratitude. The community has continued to wrap their arms around her mission."It's really just been amazing and overwhelming, and I feel so blessed," she said wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. "And so grateful and I get teared up every time I start talking about it because it gives me the opportunity to go care for families and you know it just blows my mind."Since July she's raised another ,000 and packages keep arriving on her doorstep with items for the birth center.Her mission is to support women through childbirth and beyond. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A U.S. Marine Corps veteran is spreading the message anyone can do anything they set their mind to.Kionte Storey enlisted with the USMC in 2007. He joined after witnessing the Twin Towers attack in 2001 and wanted to discover himself and push his limits."I did join knowing I was going to go to war." Storey said his second deployment took him to Afghanistan. His team went to investigate a building, ten members went in, leaving him and one other Marine outside."I make two steps in and the IED goes off. It's kinda like a movie or what you would see in video games where everything goes gray, my ears ringing, but it felt like I was hit by a truck."He said he tried to get up but his legs weren't doing what he was asking them to. He lost his right leg in the blast. He propped himself against a wall in the hallway and said he tried to remain calm, focused on the team's safety.Back home, the Semper Fi and America's Fund took care of him, starting with getting a prosthetic leg."Learning how to walk was not the hardest part, it was the easiest part out of my entire experience." Storey said it was the mental game that was most challenging. So he took it head on."I've done more than I think I would have ever done with both my legs, than I've done with one and I've exceeded all my expectations by far." Storey has run marathons, climbed mountains like Kilamanjaro in Tanzania and Vinson Massif in Antartica."It was not only difficult because of the climb itself but but it was a mental break-through that I had that opened a lot of new possibilities of once I got to the summit [of Mt. Vinson]. I was like I can do anything, there is nothing that can stop me at this point." Storey said he hopes his story encourages others facing challenges to keep fighting.The Fund has not left his side, helping Storey buy a house, enroll at Cal State San Marcos, where he's studying Kinesiology, and connect him with Koja, his service dog."He's my best friend and I couldn't see life without him... He's made my life completely worth it." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman is dead after a shooting in the Skyline area, Saturday afternoon. San Diego Police detectives said around 5:30 pm, two cars were traveling northbound on Meadowbrook Drive. Both drivers stopped at the red light at Skyline Drive. Then, the passengers got into an argument. "Our victim got out of the second vehicle and approached the front vehicle on the passenger side," Homicide Lt. Matt Dobbs said. The shooter drove off. “She was transported by paramedics to a local hospital," Lt. Dobbs said. "Unfortunately, she died at around 6:28 this evening.”Investigators said Widman's driver was cooperative. Meanwhile, the motive of the shooting remains unknown. Police describe the shooter as a Black man in his 20's, driving a black Mercedes Benz.
