Twenty years ago this week, Matthew Shepard died after being beaten, burned and left tied to a fence in Wyoming by two men who targeted him because he was gay.Since then, Shepard's parents have spread his legacy by going around the world advocating for civic and LGBTQ rights.But they hadn't found a place that felt safe enough to lay their son's ashes to rest.Until now.On October 26, Shepard will be interred at the Washington National Cathedral, the Matthew Shepard Foundation said."When Matt was taken from us, we hadn't had any death or plots plans," his parents, Judy and Dennis Shepard, said in an email. "We were living overseas at the time, and from a practical standpoint, we did not want our son to be put to rest on the other side of the world."But burying him near home didn't feel like an option either."We didn't want to leave him in Wyoming to be a point of pilgrimage that may be a nuisance to other families in a cemetery. We didn't want to open up the option for vandalism. So we had him cremated and held onto the urn until we figured out the proper thing to do."Now, the Shepards say they have found the right time and the perfect place. 1171

(KGTV) - Loved ones are making a gut-wrenching plea for tips after a hit-and-run crash that left a man on life support, days before his wedding day."I don't know what to do without him," said Sami Johnson, the daughter of Steven Johnson"I'm heartbroken. He was my everything," said Karlene Moen, Johnson's fiancee.Johnson - a father of six and a grandfather - was riding his motorcycle to work at a Lakeside trucking company Friday when he crashed around 5:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 67 just past Willows Road. His first call was to his fiancee."He sounded hurt. He sounded scared, and he was pissed off," said Moen.He posted photos of his injured leg on Facebook. He told Moen a woman in a car cut him off, causing him to crash."He said, 'We locked eyes. She knows I was there ... She just left me and left me laying in the road,'" said Moen. Soon after the accident, he developed chest pains. He was rushed into surgery with a torn aorta. On Sunday morning, Johnson went into cardiac arrest. He was revived but suffered severe brain damage. He was placed on life support. Moen says the he will be taken off life support in the coming days, and his organs will be donated.His wedding planned for Saturday will now be a 'Celebration of Life' service."He'll never see me in my wedding dress that I bought especially for him," said a tearful Moen.She's hoping the driver that caused the crash will be identified.We just want justice. We want her to know she killed him and left him there," said Moen."Who could leave my dad in the road? Two men are in jail after police say they stole a car -– with an infant inside.About 7:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a business in Boise, Idaho.“Evidence indicates that a car had been left running outside of a store, when it was stolen by two men,” according to a Boise Police Department news release. A 6-month-old infant was in the car when it was stolen. A parent pursued the car, until the driver stopped several blocks away.“One of the men exited with the child, who was still strapped into the infant car seat.  (The parent) safely took the child from the man. Thankfully, the child was unharmed,” the release stated.The suspect, later identified as Raymundo Gutierrez, 23, of Boise, was detained at the scene until officers arrived.  The other male fled in the stolen vehicle, officers said.Gutierrez was booked into the Ada County Jail and charged with accessory to grand theft, a felony.About 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, Boise Police received information that the stolen vehicle had been recovered in Canyon County -- and the driver, later identified as Robert DeShazo, was booked into the Canyon County Jail. He’s charged with felony possession of stolen property and driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.  Authorities said both suspects could face additional charges.          1396

(KGTV) — A week after a cancellation of a holiday tradition at a cemetery in Valley Center, a community wrapped up their campaign to save Christmas for many military families.Because of COVID-related issues, the nonprofit that places more than 300 Christmas wreaths at military grave markers at Valley Center Cemetery announced Friday it wouldn't be able to this year."I just felt defeated ... My heart dropped," said Jenelle Brinemann.Brinemann, a local florist, decided to post on Facebook a call for donations to make wreath sprays, a smaller version of wreaths."It shows we have Christmas spirit still, even during this hard time," said Brinemann.A day later, her driveway was filled was with donated cedar, pine, and ribbons. More than 50 volunteers signed up to help assemble. Kids sent messages to attach to the sprays and on Wednesday, the project was completed."Great way for the town to come together ... shows there's still love in the world," said Brinemann.Among those who stepped up were members of the Green Knights Military Motorcycle Club, who saw our story on the wreath campaign, and volunteered their services.On this day, they escorted the volunteers to the cemetery."We felt we had to help them, because it was the right thing to do. We have to honor our veterans that have gone before us," said club member Tyler Nelson."It was overwhelming. The whole neighborhood turned out, cheering. They had posters. Best Christmas present someone could receive," said Brinemann.At the cemetery, Brinemann and seven others quietly placed the wreath sprays at 311 grave markers."The cemetery just looks like how it should be now," said Brinemann. 1686

TULSA -- Dash cam video released Monday shows a man smash a Tulsa Police Department vehicle with a large pipe.Police said on Aug. 7 around 4 a.m., officers were dispatched to Brookhaven Hospital for a patient attempting to leave.The man was later found on I-244 eastbound.The man is seen smashing an officer's window. Police said the man was experiencing a mental health crisis.The man was tackled and officers returned him to the hospital.No arrests were made.  475
