SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report from the California Association of Realtors shows how much San Diegans need to make to buy a home. According to the report, you'll need to make well over 0,000 to qualify for a home loan. 6,270 to be exact. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A hands-on workforce training program is helping people with disabilities land jobs.Hands On @ Hyatt provides two weeks of on-the-job training at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. Students in the culinary training program get 100 hours of paid training, working with professional chefs.Kyle Lovell was a student in the program and ultimately landed a full-time job at the Hyatt as a cook."We're all here at the end of the day to work, to find a job, to make it on our own," said Lovell, "I hope everyone that has a disability knows they aren't alone."Lovell has a learning disability, but the program works with people ranging from physical disabilities to hearing impairment."I hope employers will see there are people out there with challenges that can work really hard and do a really good job," said Lovell.While unemployment hovers around 4 percent, it's twice as high for people with disabilities.The state-funded program is a partnership of Florida-based company Hands on Educational Services.Anyone interested in applying can learn more here. 1082

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A local marijuana testing lab is releasing vape test results that are alarming. Almost 80% of the cannabis vape cartridges were tested and deemed "unfit for consumption."Tucked away in a quiet San Diego business park, Platinum Vape manufacturing company produces high-potency, pesticide-free cannabis products that go through rigorous testing. Co-founder George Sadler is on a mission to spread awareness about the serious potential health risks of using products from unlicensed vape makers and sellers."It's horrible," he tells 10News, adding, "It's doing so much harm to people, versus walking into a licensed store."Platinum Vape recently teamed up with nearby licensed cannabis dispensary Mankind to buy back cartridges that ranged from home-made concentrates to counterfeits of popular legal brands.In exchange, customers got discounted Platinum Vape cartridges that are tested and regulated.Mankind Chief Operating Officer Vera Levitt tells 10News, "We wanted to encourage them to replace something that could make them sick with something that was safe."The cartridges were sent to Infinite Chemical Analysis Labs, or InfiniteCAL. It's a local cannabis testing lab that then analyzed the cartridges for potency, pesticides, and heavy metals.The lab found that 79% of the cartridges were deemed "unfit for consumption". Additionally, 62% of them failed for pesticides. Almost 40% of the cartridges failed for lead."[Were there] toxic levels of lead?" 10News asks InfiniteCAL co-founder David Marelius. "One of the vape pens had almost a hundred times the legal limit," he explains.The lab also discovered that half of the products had less than 50% THC in them. Some of the cartridges were cut with excessive levels of vitamin E acetate; the additive may be linked to numerous vape-related deaths and illnesses. Marelius adds, "20% of them had a significant amount.""It's sad for me. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new SANDAG report found that when it compared to the region's Caucasian population, Black and Hispanic communities are more than four times as likely to live in an area impacted by COVID-19 and unemployment.The report says more than two-thirds of the county's Black (67%) and Hispanic (70%) populations live in zip codes with higher than average unemployment rates. About half of Black (52%) and Hispanic (49%) San Diegans live in zip codes with higher than average COVID-19 cases as well.In comparison, the study says Caucasian (14%) and Asian (24%) populations are less impacted in both cases."As regional elected officials and leaders, it is important for us to think strategically about how to coordinate with the Black and Hispanic communities – and all communities in need – to determine which programs and policies can put in place to guide an equitable recovery as businesses begin to reopen and as people return to work or look for new jobs," said SANDAG Chair and Poway Mayor Steve Vaus.SANDAG says the most affected areas reside in the southern part of the county.
