So is it a fact? 7 Action News sat down with History Professor Pamela Sayre from Henry Ford Community College. She says it really does depend on whose narrative you are looking at. Christopher Columbus was a man of his time and murder in his country often was only a crime if you killed a man with a soul that could be saved by Christianity.People of other faiths were dehumanized. “There was serious debate over time about what beings had souls," Sayre said. "For a while there was a question, did women have souls."The fact is that the men he oversaw did commit many murders from the perspectives of Indigenous People who lost their lives. “There is a history of brutalism, of aggression against native people and lesser charges really – stealing crops, raping women,” Sayre said. The Detroit Public Schools Community District says the shirt was first noticed because sweatshirts in general are not part of a business casual dress code. Then the statement on the sweatshirt was discussed because it was not submitted as any lesson plan to be pre-approved. Ultimately, the teacher faced no discipline. that they should "go back" to the "crime infested places" they came from, even though three of the four were born in the US and the fourth is a naturalized citizen."Man, President Trump's Twitter account has been pure fire lately. This might be the funniest thing he's ever tweeted. This is the kind of WHITE NATIONALISM we elected him for," wrote Andrew Anglin on his Daily Stormer site -- one of the most highly trafficked neo-Nazi websites."And we're obviously seeing it only because there's another election coming up. But I'll tell you, even knowing that, it still feels so good."White nationalists had become openly frustrated by Trump recently for the failure to build a border wall and the lack of a promised immigration crackdown. "With a single tweet, Trump was able to win back the sizeable deluded portion of the Alt-Right, eager to take another trip on the merry-go-round," prominent white nationalist Richard Spencer wrote on Twitter. Statements from the arena and concert promoter Sean Lynn, Heritage Bank Center (Nov. 26, 2019): “The tragedy of December 3rd, 1979 is forever on our minds and hearts and the Southwest plaza will always be linked to the eleven concertgoers who lost their lives. We will never forget those victims and the many other Tri-State residents impacted by the events of that evening. We continue to be committed to the changes and ordinances that took effect worldwide as a result of this event and the safety and security of our patrons will always take priority.”Larry Magid, Electric Factory Concerts (Dec, 5, 1979): “I know that my company, Electric Factory Concerts, and I firmly believe that the coliseum staff and the city police that were on duty at the time did all that they could to control a basically uncontrollable situation. We were faced with unexpected and unexplained circumstances that could not be controlled .. and instead of concentrating on putting the blame on any one particular party or set of parties at this point, our concentration will be to work with the task force that the mayor will appoint and to come up with the causes and work to prevent any future occurrences and to ensure the public safety and welfare at all future concerts.”Pete Townshend Shares Regrets About Cincinnati tragedyPete Townshend seems to play the fool sometimes with his outspokenness, but not when he’s talking about The Who concert in Cincinnati 40 years ago.The brutally frank rock star said he will take the memory of Dec. 3, 1979 and his sorrow for the victims and compassion for their families to his grave.“This is something I will surely remember on my death bed,” Townshend said in an exclusive, face-to-face interview with WCPO. “At 74, people are starting to die faster in my life now … I’ve only maybe got 20, 30, 40 people that I remember who’ve passed in my life I really care about, but you know, the 11 of Cincinnati are part of that number.” The legendary songwriter, guitarist, secondary lead singer and leader of The Who shared many deep feelings and revelations publicly for the first time with O’Rourke about the tragedy outside the Cincinnati concert – even casually mentioning that he and singer Roger Daltrey had never sat down and talked about it.Forty years later, Townshend said he still carries deep regrets. Among his revelations:At 34, he was too drunk most of the time to quickly come to grips with what happened.Townshend said he believes The Who should not have gone on with the Cincinnati show after the 11 young people died in a crush of fans waiting outside on the plaza, even though the band didn’t know about it until the concert was over and they came off stage. And he feels even more strongly that The Who made a mistake by leaving town the next day and immediately continuing their tour. 2828

That photo soon touched the hearts of many La Marque residents. It even gained the attention of La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking, who saw the post on Facebook."Somebody tagged me and it immediately, it just touched my heart," he said. "It's so wonderful that the younger generation cares about the older generation."Simply hitting the "love" button on this post wouldn't be enough. Instead, Hocking honored Williams by proclaiming March 8 as Evoni 'Nini' Williams Day."There is a lot of love in La Marque, Texas, and we intend to perpetuate that," Hocking said."It is awesome. ... I feel excited and happy," Williams said.In addition to receiving her own day, Williams' story caught the attention of Texas Southern University President Austin A. Lane, who also saw it on social media. La Marque is near the university's hometown, Houston. Many of the college's alumni saw Williams' story and wanted to help. Through the power of social media and good will, Texas Southern University awarded Williams a ,000 scholarship. She hopes to study business administration and one day open her own restaurant or hair salon."We wanted to reward Evoni's act of kindness and let her know that good deeds do not go unnoticed," said Melinda Spaulding, an administrator at Texas Southern University."She has the character of the type of students we want at Texas Southern University." 1366
