The Trump campaign has filed a second lawsuit to stop ballot counting the day after the election. This time in Pennsylvania. In a release sent to supporters, the president’s campaign says they are taking several legal actions concerning Pennsylvania ballots. The first is they are “moving to intervene in the existing Supreme Court litigation over the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s unlawful extension of the mail-in ballot receipt deadline.”Trump’s campaign is also filing suit to stop ballot counting because they claim election officials are counting and processing ballots out of sight of Republican poll observers.“In Philadelphia and elsewhere, Democrat officials forced our observers to stay 25 feet or more from the counting process, leaving no meaningful way whatsoever for our observers to do their jobs,” the statement from Justin Clark, Trump’s deputy campaign manager, reads. With about 84 percent of the ballots counted, Trump leads Biden by almost 300,000 votes. This is similar language used by the Trump campaign when they said they filed in Michigan Wednesday morning. The Trump campaign says it is calling for a temporary halt in the counting in Michigan until it is given “meaningful access” in numerous locations and allowed to review ballots that already have been opened and processed. Trump is running slightly behind Democratic nominee Joe Biden in Michigan. 1387

The turnaround at SeaWorld might be real. The theme park owner reported that visitors to SeaWorld grew 5 percent for the quarter, the second consecutive quarter that attendance rose.Sales and attendance figures topped forecasts, and shares surged more than 15 percent to a four-year high. Its stock is up more than 80 percent this year.SeaWorld has struggled since a documentary called "Blackfish" aired in theaters and on CNN in 2013. The film focused on an orca that had killed people, including a trainer, and suggested that the conditions in which it was confined at SeaWorld contributed to its violent behavior. The company has disputed certain points in the documentary.Interim CEO John Reilly said new rides, discounted prices for annual passes and a new marketing strategy that focuses on animal rescue efforts helped push the good results. Reilly took over from former CEO Joel Manby in February after Manby failed to stop a long slide in visitors."We are pleased with our strong second quarter financial results and the continued momentum we see in the business," Reilly said in a statement. The rise in visitors coincided with the start of the summer, when kids are off from school and families take vacations. Some analysts had dismissed a first quarter attendance surge because it came at a slow time for amusement parks.SeaWorld also owns the Busch Gardens and Sesame Place theme parks. But its SeaWorld parks draw the most scrutiny. In addition to the "Blackfish" documentary, the company has been targeted relentlessly by the animal rights group PETA.In an attempt to rehab its corporate image, SeaWorld announced in 2016 that it would stop breeding orcas in captivity and also end its orca shows at its San Diego theme park. They continue elsewhere. But PETA is not enamored of the changes.PETA owns a tiny stake -- 339 shares -- in SeaWorld, with the hopes that it can urge other investors to put more pressure on management for bigger changes."We find that many families who recently went to SeaWorld say they'll never go back after what they saw. Shareholders should be wary," PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman said in a statement to CNNMoney."This summer's events show that although the marine park may have a few upward blips, it's on a downward trajectory that won't stop until the animals are out of the tanks and in coastal sanctuaries," Reiman added. While PETA may still not be satisfied with some of the changes, SeaWorld has put another problem behind it.The company said Monday that it had reached a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission over an investigation into certain "disclosures and public statements" made by SeaWorld.SeaWorld said it did not admit or deny any of the SEC's allegations and that it recorded a million charge in the quarter to settle the matter. 2834

The Scottish Parliament voted on Tuesday to unanimously approve a bill that would provide free feminine hygiene products to the public. The bill says products that are disposable, such as tampons and wipes, will be available to the public for free. The legislation, titled SP Bill 45A, spells out that local authorities ensure “period products” be obtainable free of charge to all persons who need them; education providers make period products obtainable for free for students; and that period products be available for free in public buildings. The legislation points out that Scotland is the first nation in the world to implement such a law, so it is unknown what the cost might be to the government. The Scottish government estimates there are nearly 1.6 million women of menstruation age in Scotland.“Thank you to everyone who has campaigned for period dignity and to my MSP colleagues for backing the Bill tonight. A proud day for Scotland and a signal to the world that free universal access to period products can be achieved,” the bill’s sponsor Monica Lennon tweeted."Proud to vote for this groundbreaking legislation, making Scotland the first country in the world to provide free period products for all who need them. An important policy for women and girls," Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Twitter. 1337

The San Luis Obispo County (California) Sheriff's Office confirms one of its deputies was shot early Wednesday morning in Paso Robles, California. At a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Sheriff Ian Parkinson described the incident as an “unprovoked attack on law enforcement” by a suspect “laying in ambush” at the police department in Paso Robles.According to officials, the situation began with shots fired at the Paso Robles Police Department building.San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla says shots were fired at the Paso Robles Police Department building at about 3:15 a.m.The deputy was airlifted to a trauma center and is reportedly in serious but stable condition.Paso Robles police called for help from other agencies as they responded to the shooter outside, and Parkinson says the gunman shot at police cars as they entered the downtown area to assist.Officials released photos (pictured above) of a possible suspect wanted in connection with Wednesday's shooting. 1015

The White House Correspondents' Association is shelving its tradition of having a comedian roast the president and the press corps at its annual fundraising dinner.Instead, the famed author Ron Chernow will "share his lively, deeply researched perspectives on American politics and history at the 2019 White House Correspondents' Dinner," the association's president Olivier Knox said.Knox made the announcement on Monday. For several months, he had been leaning against inviting a comic, and he had been conferring with other members about the change.President Trump has snubbed the event two years in a row, and there is little reason to believe that he will attend next dinner, which is scheduled for April 27, 2019.The dinner is a key date on Washington's social calendar. But its meaning has changed amid constant attacks on the media and increasing political polarization. Booking Chernow instead of a stand-up performer is a recognition that the annual dinner changes dramatically when the president isn't there. So the association had to rethink things.Historically, Knox told CNN earlier this year, "when the president comes, the program's center of gravity naturally tilts toward the president." After he speaks and ribs the press corps, the featured comedian serves as the counter-balance. But with the president absent, the dinner has a different, more combative feel.Knox and the association's board members are trying to change that."As we celebrate the importance of a free and independent news media to the health of the republic, I look forward to hearing Ron place this unusual moment in the context of American history," Knox said in a statement on Monday.Chernow is the author of six books, including best selling titles about Alexander Hamilton and George Washington. The Hamilton biography inspired Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway hit musical "Hamilton," and Chernow served as a historical consultant on the production.Chernow said in a statement, "The White House Correspondents' Association has asked me to make the case for the First Amendment and I am happy to oblige. Freedom of the press is always a timely subject and this seems like the perfect moment to go back to basics. My major worry these days is that we Americans will forget who we are as a people and historians should serve as our chief custodians in preserving that rich storehouse of memory. While I have never been mistaken for a stand-up comedian, I promise that my history lesson won't be dry."Comedienne Michelle Wolf spurred debate about the dinner format when she performed at last April's dinner. Some attendees loved her set, while others cringed at some parts of it.Afterward, Trump allies claimed that the jokes proved the press corps' hatred of Trump. Trump tweeted that the dinner was "embarrassing" and the event is "dead."The correspondents' association -- which did not vet her monologue ahead of time -- expressed regret that the controversy over the jokes overshadowed the dinner's First Amendment message. 3019
