NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Every week, hundreds of people from around the world visit The Free Pizza Dude account on Imgur, created by a Nashville man, to either ask for food assistance or help out."I've been able to carve out this kind of wholesome side of Imgur where people come to my post to help other people," said Mr. Puckett, the virtual Imgur user with more than 7 million up-votes. "We had all of these people kind of wanting to help, but had no idea how to."In August 2019, Mr. Puckett created The Free Pizza Dude page to help connect the people in need of a meal to willing donors."We're not trying to end world hunger we're trying to make people happy. [Those] who would not otherwise be able to afford this kind of food," said Mr. Puckett.So far, the page has allowed people to send nearly 4,000 pizzas to strangers in need.Mr. Puckett knows what it is like to be hungry."I had problems with alcohol and was homeless for four years before I got on Imgur. I knew if I ever got on my feet again, I wanted to do something where we could send food to people that wasn't rice and beans - that wasn't food shelf kind of food - something they could really enjoy and remember for some time because I always did and I always remembered the food people sent me," he said.Through his website, pizza angels from all over the world have sent paid-for pizzas to strangers and fulfilled more than 100 detailed grocery requests too."Everybody wants to help, but they want to have fun doing it, and they want to have security that they're helping the right person, and I think we've done all three of those things," he said.Mr. Puckett puts out a new call for pizza donations every Friday.He said the reason he does this is simple."I was homeless for so long and so many people from my childhood days helped me. These kids and their parents are having to make the effort to find a routine that works.Mother Kim Alvidrez says she has her twin 6-year-olds treat school from home the same way they would if they were heading to class. That includes having breakfast and breaks at the same time.She sees frustration in her kids for not having one-on-one teacher help and not being around other students.“It’s hard, as a mom to watch your kids. They want it. They want to be there, and they want to be involved but they can’t fully participate,” said Alvidrez. “It’s just their presence that’s counted. And that’s their time. That’s my biggest concern. “Alvidrez says her kids are kept silent during Zoom lessons and are encouraged to not ask questions. If questions are asked, she says it’s limited to one or two.Child psychologists say parents need to work through those struggles and remain positive to help create a better learning environment.“The number one way kids learn is by watching what their parents do,” said Dr. Jessica Hawks, a child psychologist at Children's Hospital Colorado. “So, if a parent can present an optimistic and positive about the fact that their child's in online schooling, the child's more likely to embrace that philosophy and mentality and can really be helpful overall to the engagement.”Hawks says parents also need positive routines for kids, which include proper eating and sleep habits, along with a designated area for kids to do their online work.As for Alvidrez, she says one positive is her twins are in the same class. 1665

NBC News and PBS report that the Trump administration will end funding to 13 COVID-19 testing sites in five states at the end of June.According to PBS reporter Yamiche Alcindor, the testing sites are located in Illinois, New Jersey, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Texas.Reports of the administration's decision came a day after the U.S. reported 34,700 new cases of the virus — the third-highest single-day increase of new cases since the pandemic began.The reports also come after days of contradicting messaging regarding testing within the administration. At a rally in Tulsa on Saturday, President Donald Trump said that he had ordered health experts to "slow down" testing to limit the number of newly reported infections.On Monday, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said during a press briefing that Trump made those comments "in jest." Trump contradicted McEnany's assertion on Tuesday when asked about his comments, adding that he "doesn't kid."Also on Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci and other top health officials in the White House said they had not been directed to slow down testing.Health experts widely agree that increased testing capacity is a key tenet in slowing and preventing the coronavirus' spread. 1220

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - When it comes to time off, managers can ask questions to an extent in order to confirm an employee is following CDC and local health mandates.Businesses are legally allowed to ask employees about potential exposure to COVID-19 if it helps keep the workplace or customers safe. Attorney Rebecca Demaree said if an employer does not treat every employee the same way, they may find themselves in hot water."Should you ask 'well, if you're going to that protest activity, we're going to make your self isolate for 14 days because we know there are going to be a large number of individuals,' and then you take a similarly situated employee who says 'at Christmas I'll be with 20 of my relatives,' and you don't treat them the same way, the question could be are you doing that because you're trying to stifle a protest or a First Amendment activity?" said Rebecca Demaree.Demaree counsels companies on labor and employment law. She said health screenings when employees return to work after time off make sense in most high-contact industries."That's going to be important for the employers to keep customers and fellow employees safe," Demaree said. Demaree advises a good questionnaire doesn't include questions that can make an employee feel singled out."They're not questions about 'who were you with?' 'Where were you?' What were you doing exactly?' But they are more designed to lead to those questions if more information is warranted," she said.Additionally, friends and families should not compare their return to work processes because different industries are doing it differently. New questions are also likely to be asked in 2021 when vaccines are available.
