The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's annual Arctic Report Card was published Tuesday.The report shows that the past year - from October 2019 to September 2020 - was the second warmest on record in the Arctic, the report said.The extent of snow on the ground in June across the Eurasian Arctic was the lowest recorded in 54 years.Satellites recorded the second-lowest end of summer sea ice extent in the ocean since record-keeping began 42 years ago, the report stated.According to the report - from September 2019 to August 2020 - the Greenland ice sheet experienced an ice loss higher than the 1981-2010 average but substantially lower than the 2018-19 record."Abnormal cyclonic atmospheric circulation centered over Greenland promoted normal or colder-than-average conditions for the interior and east, with higher air temperatures in the north, southwest, and many coastal regions," researchers who contributed to the report stated.The report also added that extreme wildfires in the Sakha Republic of northern Russia this year "coincided with unparalleled warm air temperatures and record snow loss in the region."According to the Associated Press, the report from last year included for the first time essays and research contributed by the Arctic's Indigenous communities. (KGTV) — Firefighters made short work of a fire that tore through a Vista home and set nearby vegetation ablaze Saturday evening.Vista Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the area of Robelini Drive and El Valle Opulento just before 7 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a brush fire extending into a home at 110 El Valle Opulento.As firefighters battled back the brush fire, other fire crews tackled flames shooting our of the home. Firefighters say that because of the "rapidly deteriorating conditions inside the home," crews were forced to get out of the home and fire the fire from outside.The fire was fully extinguished within about an hour, VFD said. One person was displaced from the home. No injuries were reported. It's not clear how the fire began. The fire is currently under investigation.Firefighters reminded homeowners to have working smoke alarms in their home and clear vegetation away from any structure. 957

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Now that the election is over, the question remains of what to do with leftover campaign signs.Carolyn Beach and a group of her friends volunteer to help find missing pets and reunite them with their owners. She decided this was the perfect opportunity to upcycle the political yard signs.“They’re great to spray paint or just use the metal part to use a poster board and put your lost pet flyer there,” explained Beach.Her friend MaryBeth Ruger added that they can reuse them many times and they're versatile.“These signs are better than posting them on a lamp post or a pole because you can’t see that dog. VISTA (CNS) - A Carlsbad woman who fatally shot her husband during an argument while their children watched cartoons downstairs will not have her sentence reduced in light of a recent gun law.Julie Elizabeth Harper, 45, was convicted in October 2015 of second-degree murder in the death of her husband, Jason Harper. She was sentenced to 40-years-to-life in prison.This year, the 4th District Court of Appeal found Harper's case is affected by a new law (Senate Bill 620) that took effect in 2018.
